.On difficulty, Tabata revealed that the game's difficulty is being
set to make you feel like you're actually facing off against an
enemy, as from the initial phases the concept of the game was of a
killing match where if you don't kill you'll be killed.
In terms of difficulty settings, the game has easy, normal and
hard, along with the "deadly" mode that was in Parasite Eve 2.
Tabata recommends easy for those who want to see the story,
normal for those who don't mind a challenge, and hard for those
who are truly confident in their skills. Even easy mode has been
adjusted to keep the game feel and concept in place, so it's a bit
more difficult than just allowing you to breeze through.
Regarding the game's costume system, Tabata revealed that the
game has three levels of damage (I'm not sure if this includes the
"no damage" level). The recently revealed Knight Armor is strong
when undamaged, but when it reaches level one damage it suddenly
becomes weak.
It was previously revealed that the clothing will have unique voice
styles associated with them. Based off the interview summary, it
seems like you'll actually be able to choose between Aya's normal
voice or the special voice. Tabata says that Lightning's costume and
special voice must be experienced because they fit together so
perfectly.
On the recently revealed Over Energy System, Tabata says that
as your Over Energy gets stronger and stronger, the game will
become like a totally different game. When you begin play, the focus
will be on weapon use. However, as the Over Energy is
strengthened, you'll gain access to more special abilities, and the
focus will be more on action.
I'm not sure about this, but it seems the Over Energy component of
the game will carry over into your future play sessions. That is,
after clearing the game, you'll be able to continue with Aya having
the more powerful DNA that you built up in previous sessions. I may
be reading this wrong, though, so I'd suggest waiting for
confirmation.
In addition to Aya getting more powerful through Over Energy, the
game's weapons can also be strengthened. You'll be able to unlock
weapons for purchase once you've dived into a soldier that uses the
weapon. After purchasing the weapon, the weapon's level will rise
as you play. There may be a custom parts component to the
weapon system as well.

http://i55.tinypic.com/2jshm8.jpgIf I recall correctly (and I could be wrong), Aya Brea's wedding dress was totally white back in that original wedding scene trailer for The 3rd Birthday. But it's gotten a bit of color in the game's latest CG work, which debuted on the cover of this week's Dengeki PlayStation:
http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/201...wedding_dress/The magazine has a 10 page feature on the game with a staff interview, all of which was summarized at this blog.
While Aya's wedding dress hasn't been confirmed as one of Aya's costumes, Dengeki does have the first word another costume: Santa Soldier. This Santa outfit has a revealing skirt and long boots, and even gives Aya a cute little present bag hanging off her shoulders.
The interview reveals that the game will have around 10 costumes total, some of which have yet to be announced.

http://www.siliconera.com/2010/12/08...-3rd-birthday/Dengeki PlayStation has a huge feature on The 3rd Birthday. The magazine talked about costumes, there are ten to find in the game, and more importantly gameplay details.
One way Aya Brea can heal herself is by equipping a healing over energy DNA chip. Every time you use the overdive system to enter another person’s mind you have a fixed chance to recover life. Alternatively, Aya can heal with the cross healing chip, which gives players a fixed chance to recover life when you trigger a crossfire attack.
Before a mission starts Aya can pick weapons to bring with her. While each character Aya dives into has their own weapons, Aya retains whatever weapons she equipped. Players earn BP by shooting the Twisted. You can use this to purchase new weapons or repair Aya’s costume. In an interview with the magazine, Hajime Tabata, the game’s director, says there are a lot of restart points in easy mode. The game is designed with a high level of difficulty and you have to utilize the overdive system to move on.
Yoshinori Kitase, Executive Producer, explained the concept of The 3rd Birthday is not a Parasite Eve sequel, rather a "restart" for the series. While Tabata made many of the game’s maps, Kitase created the final dungeon. [Highlight to see what may be considered a spoiler] The last dungeon has a Final Fantasy feel to it. With many enemies, this area has a high level of difficulty. Players will have to be on their guard at all times here. [End spoiler]
Famitsu brought us news about another costume, the Santa soldier, which you can see above.
So many reboots lately, what's the deal?
Dunno, I love that PE is getting another game after so long, but I would like a sequel to PE2 even more.
Even Reboot is getting rebooted again in a way.
The 3rd Birthday official site was updated today with a couple of areas that should be of interest to readers of this site who made that recent image of Aya Brea in a bloody wedding outfit one of the top hit stories from earlier this week.
Under the "system" section of the site, you'll now find a look at the game's clothing damage system (click on "アヤの服"). The details are the same as always -- as you incur damage, Aya's clothes will gradually tear off to show a bit more flesh. But now you can see it in motion. The video at the end of this section also shows shows some of Aya's more recent costume announcements, including the Knight Armor outfit and maid outfit (but unfortunately not the sexy Santa Soldier outfit).
There's also a section titled "Level-up and BP" (click on "レベルアップとBP"). As you defeat the Twisted during your mission, you earn experience and BP (Bounty Points). Collect a certain amount of experience, and Aya's level will rise, increasing her maximum life and her attack strength during her Liberation burst move. In the CTI briefing room, you can purchase and customize weapons and also change Aya's costume. BP is used here to purchase weapons and repair damaged equipment.
Finally, a section called Overdive Kill (click on "オーバーダイブ・キル"). Overdive Kills have been detailed at this site before. During battle, if you hit your enemy with consecutive blasts or make use of powerful hand grenade and shotgun attacks, the enemy will retreat back. A triangle mark will appear on the screen when this happens. Lock on to the enemy, press triangle, and you'll unleash Aya's Overdive Kill move. Aya will dive into the enemy for a mental attack, dealing it serious damage. The down side is, for a brief period following the OD Kill, Aya will incur greater damage. There's a video in this section showing an OD Kill move.

http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/201..._shower_scene/The 3rd birthday staff has been a bit back and forth on the possibility of bringing back Parasite Eve 2's shower scene for The 3rd Birthday. Today came the final answer, courtesy of the game's Twitter:
That's main character Aya Brea in the game's shower scene. The image apparently appears in a magazine. (I'm going to assume it's Dengeki, as Famitsu has a different shower scene image, a particularly sexy shot of Aya pressing her hands against the camera).
Speaking to Famitsu this week, director Hajime Tabata said the shower scene wasn't in the game until midway through development. They ended up adding it after seeing reactions at Twitter.
"To be honest, with this the CERO rating went up," revealed Tabata. "I wanted to apologize to the publicity and management staff, but they all said 'This is okay!'" (The 3rd Birthday is rated D.)
Producer Yoshinori Kitase, in the same interview, said, "I was hoping to have The 3rd Birthday played by a wider audience, so I was cautious about the inclusion of the shower scene. However, one of the main elements of the game is also the appeal of Aya, so in the end I accepted it. It's really become a suggestive scene."
It looks like the game's CG staff was really excited about making the scene. Art director Isamu Kamikokuryou, also in the same interview (yes, they got everyone together), explained that when the development staff requests the production of a movie from Square Enix's movie staff, they usually begin with a discussion of budget and production time. This time, however, the movie staff said "You decide if you'll end up using it. We're just going to make it."
For kicks, here's a link to some old Tweets where Tetsuya Nomura discusses how impressed he is with the technology behind the scene. And here's a link to some Tweets from the day before where Tabata specifically says that there won't be a scene.

Is rating really such a serious business in other countries nowadays anyway? I'm not really sure how parents/people view it here in Poland nowadays, but I remember when I was a kid parents getting their kids games like Quake, GTA etc was a standard thing, hell the first game my father installed on my first PC was Postal (and Croc right after :D). Or maybe it's more of a Japan thing?
