Building a PC for FFXIV with No Experience!

Hey guys and gals below is what I'm looking at to build a PC.

    Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
Intel Core i7 960 LGA 1366 Socket, Quad Core
    GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard (2x PCI Expresss x16, 2x SATA 6GB/s, LGA 1366, DDR3 2200/1333/1066/800, ATX)
Radeon 5850 (Should I use two cards?)
Power Supply Silverstone 700W (Go Higher Wattage?)
    Crucial Ballistix Tracer 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Here is the basic layout of what I am looking to build and I excluded the simple things such as HDD and DVD-Rom's. I've never built a computer solo before and is this something I should try doing on my own for the first time? Any suggestions or advice would be very helpful!

should just go with the i7 950 since it's like half the price and almost as good as a 960. your psu should depend on if you are going to xfire or not. 700w is plenty for a single gpu though.

Anyway, if all you're doing is gaming, don't waste your money on an i7 960, 950, or even 920. Get an i5, put all your savings towards a GTX470 or 480, depending on the resolution/number of monitors you're playing on. You could even wait to see what ATI's new 6000 line is like, since they're being released mid-October. Also, without modified drivers, I'm pretty sure FFXIV doesn't support SLI/Xfire.

I don't know why anyone would want to shell out the cash for this game after seeing all the things wrong with it now that it's actually in retail though. Jesus fuck is it painful to watch.

If you got the money, in my opinion, the i960 is a fine choice for a processor. For the price, it'll last you a long time and you'll get years use out of it. As for the rest of your build, it's looking great. Also, don't skimp on your power supply, get a Corsair 1000w, it'll give you room to upgrade if you ever needed to in the future.

I would try and stay away from crossfiring, especially if you have the money to buy a single graphics card. Crossfiring is more or less a budget way to upgrade your graphics bus, unless you're trying to be crazy and crossfire two extremely powerful cards. If you're using this PC for FFXIV, it does not work properly (yet) with crossfired cards.

Either way, like I said, I'd buy a single card. The GTX470 is a great choice (as Knyghtmayre said above) I would go with either a GTX470 or a HD5870. Both great cards, not too overly priced. About waiting for the new line of cards to come out, I always wait a couple of months before I buy a card as they don't debug the driver software as much as they should before releasing them.

Drop the i7 960 for the 950 definitely. Not worth the price difference.
    Upgrade the 5850 to 5870.
Get a SSD for your OS.
For case, get an Antec DF-85.
PSU is fine. Guy above says to stay away from cross fire, yet suggests a 1000W PSU? lolwut

Get an AMD Phenom II 4x, then search this board for builds.

As far as building the PC this video is a pretty good walkthrough, used it for when I built mine a few months ago.
