Pretty much this I think is the reason people hate so much on instances. I know I really and truly dislike the WoW system where gear is outdated every 3 months, and I liked how in XI you worked hard for one piece and used it for a long time. If they could find a way of combining the long-time gear use and instancing most things, I know I would be in gaming heaven.

That being said I love NMs, so I am glad they are keeping world NMs, just not like XI's system of camp camp camp camp and camp more.

Abyssea took a step in the right direction: per-spawned NMs are on a (generally) 30 minutes timer, others are popped with fairly common triggers. Oh, and while they are at it: fuck d.ring-like drop rates, killing the same NM over and over and over and getting a fire shard for the effort is nowhere like fun.

Don't kid yourselves, of course the thrill of winning is a huge drive for the hardcore community in an mmorpg. Look at the ebody pre abyssea. Before einherjar u saw somebody in the blue armor u knew off the bat they were a serious player. After every ls started raping Odin ebody didn't matter so much because every war/drk/bst had one. The stats on the armor were still godly but the inrtrinsic value was gone.

SE needs to have a little bit of everything. Bring back Tiamat bring back Fafhog and bring back ein and limbus type instance events too. keep znm type popped nms too. Just have gear thay is somewhat equal from all events so u can pick and choose what u want to do endgame.

Damn, I was trying to equate it to a system that was in FFXI but I couldn't put my finger on it. But yeah, ZNM system is exactly what we're looking at for XIV. At least for now.

I think that's why Salvage was, to me, the best event/activity in XI. It took skill, gear was not easy to get (duping aside ;x), and it still was instanced.

I definitely agree that SE needs a little of everything this time around.

    Open world NMs are awesome.

That being said. The only thing they need to change is having drop rates never go below 50%. What made FFXI NMs so tedious was having a 5-10% drop rate and a ridiculous spawn time.

Even that being said. As harrowing as camping Vbow was with the ridiculous 24-30 hour pop time and 5% drop rate, there was an immense satisfaction in finally seeing something you really had to put time and effort into, finally drop.

Going 0/9 on Vbow and wasting over a week and having to fight off other campers for the claim was still FAR more enjoyable than being in a shitty sky ls for 9 months to finally get my byakkos. Oh yeah, do I miss those days >.>

The best gear came from elsewhere. It was already thousand times better simply because of this important factor. No d-rings, no e bodies, no ridills.

If they make open world HNMs largely irrelevant, it doesn't really matter whether they exist or not or what their pop conditions are. Especially if you can buy the drops anyway.

Killing Nidhogg in 5min sure is serious business. The entire thing was just bullshit and everyone ate it up.

Maat's cap before the smn burn nonsense showed more commitment than anything from any king.

    This.

farming, let's say, your guivre skull and sign your own wyvern helm +1 is better commitment than lotting the abj. in pool

Didn't matter how easy it was to kill nidhogg. The point was that wearing the blue armor gave u epeen status based on the difficulty of actually getting into a situation where u could even lot the shit.

I think some element of this type of gameplay needs to remain. Same shit with the guy camping his bow. I agree its a helluva feeling when u actually get your shit. Kinda feels like when u actually make a piece of armor in 14 now lol.

When I got my high-end gear, it was because I wanted to be strong, not because I wanted some random guy to look at me and think I was strong. Thankfully I didn't have to cheat for it, or screw someone else over for it, but I felt the same sense of accomplishment in WoW getting my T10.5 set for my Hunter as I did getting full AF2+1, Homam, Barone/conte, ect. for my Drg in FFXI, because I had to work in both to get it. The only difference was that in one, I was always given that opportunity to put the work in each week, while in the other, if some other group botted, my opportunity was gone.

If people want to camp, its because they want to experience the thrill not simply from winning (as any system that promotes a reward after hard work constitutes winning), but from winning over others. It has nothing to do with gear being watered-down if everyone else has it: guess what? You aren't the only person playing the game. Everyone should have the same chance as you to receive the same reward if they work just as hard. Instances allow that to happen. Bottlenecking some of the best items in the game behind one monster on a 24-72 hour singular spawn does not.

If you want to get back to the days where the best bot wins, and the best MPKers rule; the days where cheaters assemble into one dominant force and strangulate servers, then just say so. Say you loved the days of bots and cheaters being misconstrued as "strong", simply because they had the best methods to win; namely, botting an easy monster, then killing said easy monster ad nauseum.

Personally, I'm looking for something that shows a bit more advancement on the system, but seriously, just come out and say that you love bottlenecks where cheaters thrive and honest players suffer. Don't hide behind the bullshit facade of "oh, I only want to see 30 of X item on a server of 13,000, because then the item has value!"

The stats on the item provide the value, not the rarity due to strangulation.

Also others had said it. E-Body ment you were in a shell that could claim a HNM faster than the other 3-5 shells there. That's not skill. skill was the the 1st few players who got full salvage gear(pre-dupe). Those were serious players. Odin was SE's answer to get 120+ people out of DA every 21-24 hours. It worked. DA still had ridill, and odin had Valhal. gear.

I still to this day think the worst mob/item NM camping was KB and the 1-3 D-Ring drops per year. Come the fuck on!

I would hate to see 24/72 hour spawns. Abyssea spawn rate would be the best, or hell, higher ranked Battle Wardens with high end notorious monsters would be the best.

Although, I am very interest in Party vs. Party fights. Seeing that horde of Aldgoats vs. a similar party would be very fun. No AoE hate tools though, so it will be tough. For that matter, why hasn't SE given us the ability to AoE Mocking Provoke or Provoke?

A lot of the posts in here act like open world NMs are a FFXI only thing. The best thing that SE did was convert a ton of the awesome NM drops to rare/ex. I'm not talking about abjs, or kings. I mean things like leaping boots, vali bow, emp pin, kyahan, etc. It cut the RMT factor out almost completely, and even if your competition included someone botting against you, eventually they will get the item and be gone. I camped and got all of those items even though i could have bought them easily. I just had fun doing it i guess, even things like camping mold for rain hat(which was one of the only things i could never get to drop . )

How is this thread acceptable under any standard, let alone an advanced one? If you don't lock or prevent disruptions to objective information gathering nothing is going to get done.

I thought this board was suppose to get better at retail. (Like FFXIV.)

Let me clarify for the people who have a hard time understanding.

Camping AKA not actuallly playing the game just watching it is the worst, least fun type of time sink.

On the other hand fighting NMs is what actually is fun. Even lottery pops aren't to bad but what they should do is have something like you kill 20-30 of this specific mob and the big baddy comes out. Lower the amount of luck involved. Time sinks can be fun if it's not then the devs aren't doing a good job.

FF12-style rare game/hunt prerequisites for NM appearance. I would like something like that.

However, how healthy is a game with no competition outside the marketplace?

I'd say that any game that promotes cheating to get ahead wasn't healthy in the first place, but I digress.
