    Culinarian

I havent seen a general thread on Culinarian. Let's get one of those going. Just post whatever you want about the Culinarian craft.

So far I've been using eozreapedia for recipes, not really sure what's better.

I found out today after running all over the place gathering ingredients, farming dodo, and walking to LL for the first time that Pea Soup requires higher than rank 8.

Cider Vinegar looks like it would be a good recipe to level up on, it's got few and easy to gain materials. Maple Sugar can be made from Maple Sap which can be bought cheaply from NPCs.

Maple Sap -> Maple Sugar can be attempted by at least level 8 but it's really hard to do successfully even with guild cookery support.

I also found this to be extremely helpful

    http://hubpages.com/hub/FFXIVNewbieCraftingGuide
Standard: highest success rate. Near equal emphasis on quality and progress.
Rapid: Medium Success rate? More emphasis on progress, less so on quality. Usually the panic button when things start to get hairy beyond spamming standard.

Bold: Lowest success rate. More emphasis on quality, less so on progress. Failing on a bold will DESTROY your durability. Option only for the brave and bold(lol) of heart.
Wait: Strongly recommended on unstable states. consecutive waits stack. 1st wait = -1 durability. 2nd wait = -2 durability. 3rd wait = -3 durability...and so on and so forth.
The orb has a chance of changing states...and will do it repetitively during synthesis.

White: usually starts out this way. This is the most stable, highest success percentage.
Yellow: Second highest success percentage? Rumor has it that it favors Rapid synthesis.
Red: Third highest success percentage? Rumor has it that it favors Bold synthesis.
Multicolor: Unstable. Wait or risk standard synth to attempt to stabilize it.
CHAOTIC: You have failed big time. Wait or risk standard synth to attempt to stabilize it. If you can’t risk waiting, go balls to the wall and cross your fingers.
Sparks: Sparks increase based on how badly you’re doing. I think it exponentiates results of both loss and success… Mostly loss....
The information seems to be accurate as far as I can tell

I just found out that making pies in pans is not a good idea

Unless you want your crystal to become unstable and blow up in your face

Spinach Saute looks like a 5~10 craft. Can be attempted by level 9 at least but having some difficulty in making consistentlyit's pretty easy to make once you stop being retarded. Best made with a pan as far as I can tell.

It's also rewarding for 400 sp 1500exp so I figure it's bound to be higher than level 1

After level 10 or so you start to get reduced exp for level 1 crafts like sea sand/river sand

Haven't found a good replacement recipe yet so currently I'm still grinding those in my spare time

Skillets vs Culinary Knives are simply Quality vs. Quantity.

Skillets will grant +1/2/3's while Culinary Knives will yield extra quantities upon HQ.

So, if you're doing a leve where it's impossible to HQ or you just don't care about the results as you're going to NPC them all, just use the tool that gives you the most Craft/M.Craft/Control stats (Most likely your Skillet). If you're using the end-product to work on another synth just for skilling, use your Culinary Knife. If you're using the end-product to sell or use in a different synth to make one finished item, use your Skillet. This pretty much goes for all crafting classes, although it's not always Main = Quality and Sub = Quantity, some are switched up.

Also, I highly recommend Fishing along-side Cooking. Wind and Fire shards are ultra-common while fishing, even more so if you push your elemental affinity towards wind. Then, you have an infinite amount of fish and wind shards to make all the sea/river sand you will ever need. Not to mention, higher "rank" fish will be higher-rank recipes, for more skill/exp when you surpass Crayfish and the like and head towards things like Tree Toads, Ocean Clouds, and Ala Mhigan Fighting Fish.

Thanks for the great info. I was wondering-have you found a recipe for apple juice?

If it follows the same deal as orange juice it should be 4 apples, but I haven't tried it yet.

    *EDIT*
YG has it has a rank 9 recipe and its lightning shardx1 and 1 faerie apple.

    *EDIT 2"
YG is wrong. It's 6 Faerie Apples and 4 Lightning Shards to make Apple Juice. I got some apples and decided to experiment until I could get it to pop up. At CUL15 it told me "You decide to wait until you are more skilled to attempt this synthesis." So it's a hell of a lot higher than 9 as well.
