I've been playing it a lot since I got it while simultaneously bashing it. Its kind of fun, but could be so much more. Basically a killzone for pc. Gameplay is bland but I find myself wanting to unlock all the abilities. And yet, I think a lot of them suck... like the no-range turrets. Its definitely fun enough to play til BF3

Hmmm, it almost feels as though they ninja'd an xbl server update in sometime between yesterday and today. I've played multiple online matches today, and not one has had the terrible lag skipping I experienced during the first two days of online play. If they are getting a move on the most urgent issues players have with this game this quickly, I will hold onto high hopes that they won't just forget about Brink and stop updating it, because I really would like to see it develop a little more so it can gain a nice base of players.

way back in 09 they said they had plans for Brink 2 and 3, so I'm hoping that it sold enough to justify those and that we end up with an Assassin's Creed situation where the first game wasn't completely awesome and kinda repetitve but subsequent ones are huge improvements.

We have been working on updates for Brink to address the lag issue that some people have reported they were experiencing.

In the meantime, we have made a configuration change for 360 users (which will be available to the PS3, once PSN is up) that alters the number of human players when matchmaking for “Campaign” and most ‘Freeplay’ modes to eight total human players. This new configuration will allow those connecting to and hosting matches (particularly those with lower upstream bandwidth) to more reliably find and connect to quality hosts via the match-making process – resulting in less lag and more fun. This change is being rolled out today and will be available worldwide.

For players who haven’t been experienced lag, we’ll still support 8v8 on all maps via a new ‘Big Teams’ configuration in Freeplay, and through custom settings in Private matches. There is no download required for this update and it will be available automatically the next time you log in to play Brink and launch either campaign or standard Freeplay matches. This should allow players new to the Ark as well as veterans to find quality matches suitable to their preferred play style.

We are also releasing an incremental update for PC players via Steam that addresses AI, GPU, and server issues. See the full release notes on Steam. Many of these fixes are being included in the full update for the 360 and PS3 versions.

We would like to thank you for supporting Brink and for your continued feedback. To show our appreciation for your support of Brink, we will be making the first DLC for Brink available for free when it is released. This DLC is planned for June and will offer additional maps and new content for players. We’ll continue to provide announcements about the next title update, as well as the first DLC release as that information becomes available.

I played today after the steam patch and FOV change works properly now, either create an autoexec.cfg with ui_fov "90" in it for 1080p, or do it via console (ctrl+alt+`). Feels better at least not being so zoomed in because of the shitty default FOV.
Still a lot of other things they need to fix and improve but it's a start.

Damn, forgot I started this thread even. Oddly enough I lost interest over the winter/early spring with this because I remembered hearing some shitty things. Doesn't seem like its really worth the money, I'm not really dying for a new game to play, so I'll probably hold off till BF3

    http://bethblog.com/index.php/2011/0...s-site-update/
Today we’ve got some exciting news to share about two big Brink updates in the works.

First up, the statistics site will be going live next Tuesday for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players. PC players can look forward to it going up very soon. This site, located at brinkthegame.com, will be your hub for in-depth stats, including data on matches, players and the overall progress in the weekly Battle for the Ark. Check out the screenshot above for a sneak peek and dig up that VIP code as you’ll need it to register once the stats page is live.

On top of that, the Agents of Change DLC is just on the horizon, slated for release in June. The pack will bring new maps, abilities, character customization options and weapon attachments to Brink, while also raising the level cap to 24. Here’s a full list of the DLC content:

    New Maps

Founders’ Tower – The revolution finally reaches the island’s iconic spire and takes the battle for the Ark to dizzying heights.
Labs – Venture into the depths of the Ark’s original research and development laboratories, a submerged high-tech facility so far untouched by the civil war.
    New Player Abilities

UAV – This stealthy and lethal device allows Operatives to automatically mark nearby enemies on their radar. For more explosive fun, they can even take direct control of the UAV and detonate it near unsuspecting foes.
Napalm Grenade – Soldiers can use this new grenade to cover an area in a sea of deadly flames.
Pyro Mine – Engineers can plant these mines and leave enemies in the epicenter of a massive napalm explosion.
Field Regen Unit – Medics can deploy these units to increase the health regeneration of any nearby teammates.
Tactical Scanner – This universal ability allows players to reveal the active buffs of their opponents, allowing them to pick off enemies more strategically.
    New Weapon Attachments

Bayonets – Gain the edge in melee combat and cause extra damage with these deadly blades.
Weapon Shields – Take cover from enemy fire and prevent headshot bonus damage behind riot-style shields.
    New Character Outfits

The Sad Punk – Add a touch of Steampunk to your Resistance character.
The Limey – Bring order to the Ark with this outfit inspired by traditional European police.
In addition to these updates, we’re happy to let you know that the [lag fixing] updates we described last week will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this weekend.
now that is some ballin' free DLC

I have been playing a lot more since I made my stats page about a week ago, and there has actually been games on XBL with 8+ real people playing and no lag, so aside from the issue of a small fanbase atm, the matches work just fine now. I'm just glad they aren't charging for this DLC, since it is content that probably should have just been included at release anyways.

This is what you should be fearful of, not us releasing things publicly, but the fact that someone hasn't released something publicly. We're sitting on 200,000 Brink users right now that we never gave out. It might make you feel safe knowing we told you, so that Brink users may change their passwords. What if we hadn't told you? No one would be aware of this theft, and we'd have a fresh 200,000 peons to abuse, completely unaware of a breach.

According to some other news sites, this list has been uploaded to Pirate Bay. I cannot confirm on that.

Forums and/or stats page were the passwords they got. I already changed my passwords for both, but I am glad it got announced they hacked Brink passwords and gave people the opportunity to change them.

Anyways, I've found that on the xbox360 it seems like the online game-play is making a comeback from how dead it has been in the past few weeks, especially in competition mode. I got a few matches last night in standard mode with 8-10+ real players, and competition you can usually get a full game (5v5 real players only for this mode), and since every player is human and there's only 10 total per game, you really gotta work together and be decent at the game to win these matches, which makes them pretty dang fun.

I know most people weren't and still aren't impressed with the game, but I still have a great time playing it, especially when you get a room full of mature people with mics on competition to pull off some nice victories with.

For a game with such a small fan-base, Brink sure seems to be getting a lot of updates. Anyways, since my last post about the unveiling of what will be included in the free DLC, there has been some fixes to game mechanics and weapons on the PC version, with the weapon and game tweaks for consoles arriving with the DLC in early July.

The DLC is going to be free for 2 weeks to download, and if you download the DLC in that period, it will be yours to own forever. If you don't pick up the DLC in that time period, you will be forced to pay a small fee for it. I believe they aren't just making it 100% free due to Microsoft and their policy of not releasing free DLC once it's over a certain memory requirement, so I am just pleased they somehow got the okay to give it to players on all platforms for a 2 week period.

Anyways, I do not know if anyone on this site aside from myself still even owns this game, but I still get enjoyment out of it, and if anyone else does they might dig the links posted below:
