I live in north England and idk if I'm protected by some bisexual shield (inb4lolbisexualsdon'texist) but the fact I like doods has never been a problem in my life. I find it really hard to relate to stories like this one, can things really be so bad you kill yourself over being outed as gay?

All my friends are straight and I've never been bullied or insulted over it. Other people I know who are gay/bi/lesbo have afaik never had a problem either except from their parents accepting it, which is understandable as they're from a generation where things were different. Now I'm at Uni I'd be totally shocked if anyone ever made a serious homophobic comment. Hasn't most of our generation moved on from sexual problems/discrimination by the time we hit 18? Does America have more homophobia then the UK?

Hell, the one time someone was a douche about my sexuality was when they left my LS because they found out, and who gives a fuck about that? lol

The UK is largely secular, whereas the U.S. is predominantly Christian. It might as well be a theocracy with how easily progressive changes are cockblocked.

You would think that most of our generation would be accepting—and a good portion of them are—but there are still an unfortunate amount of immature and/or brainwashed people in the U.S..

The thing is though about this case in particular, is Rutgers tends to have a very liberal student population for the most part. As it was said before, we seem to have a large gay population (at least compared to other schools), hell we even have an entirely gay frat on campus. I don't think that this one incident alone could have been what drove the kid to such an extreme outcome, at least from the information I have about the matter. The general consensus on campus seems to be that most people feel bad about what happened and don't think the kid deserved to go through it, they feel terrible for the kid's family, but his response was incredibly extreme. There was a group started on Facebook trying to get students to wear black to the home coming game to honor him, and a lot of the responses were people refusing to do it.

I heard they actually have really good parties, they have one of the nicest frat houses on campus. That's not really saying much at Rutgers though.

I remember reading up on gay frats once a long time ago, there was some sort of "Don't date/sex/etc your brothers" code or some shit, so I lol'd and moved on with whatever I was doing at the time.
