Self defense equates to expressing the same amount of force upon your assailant as is being placed upon you. Self defense does not mean if someone smacks you upside the head you roundhouse kick them, or shoot them or whatever. One of the reasons I get a kick out of those "self defense" training videos you see sometimes where they teach people to flip the fuck out and bash someones head against pavement.

Meh, always figured that law went to the fact that if you got hit w/o a weapon you can't retaliate with a weapon. I see no problem with a kick, especially if she was coming in for a second strike. If it was just a retal hit and she was done, then yea he may have a problem.

Some of you may remember when I pushed an old man down some stairs in a very similar altercation a few years back. When it becomes apparent, by whoever the dumb bitch tells, that she struck you and you struck her back, it will be dropped just like mine was. I wonder where that thread is~

That depends entirely on where you get your definition. What you can get away with is extremely subjective, and also dependent on whether or not there are witnesses. They say that if someone breaks into your house or tries to rob you and you end up shooting them, you are supposed to shoot-to-kill so they can't give a different story in the courtroom (this is seriously what they tell you).

In the case of a fist fight, you just have to convince the judge that you were seriously worried about your well-being. There is no such nonsense about "equal force". There is only lethal force, and non-lethal force. You're not SUPPOSED to answer non-lethal force with lethal, but humans are sometimes fragile when it comes to violence, so I'd imagine that there's plenty of leeway between what is considered which.

In this particular case, it would probably depend on how much bullshit Zilong felt like piling on to the judge. If he could convince that judge that he panicked when he lost his glasses and lashed out, then that, plus the fact that she struck first would likely get him off. If he stupidly admitted to purposely escalating the encounter, then he would probably lose.

I don't know how it is in other states, but in NC there seems to be a pretty heavy bias in favor of women when it comes to assault. I've had to sit in court waiting for my lawyer several times and listened to the cases being tried before mine... so many "Assault on a female" cases come up. A lot of times the dude tries to defend himself by saying that the chick hit him first, and the usual response from the judge is "So? She's a woman."

Always kind of bugged me a little honestly. That and the fact that it's like some special charge. Like when a chick hits another chick it's simple assault, when a dude does it it's assault on a female.

Not that I want to hit chicks or anything, just seems like around here even defending yourself from some raging psychopathic bitch makes you out to be a wife beater or some shit.
