Terry got that tattoo to remind himself of his goal. Him and Dirk have pictures of the trophy in their locker too. Didn't see them hold a press conference about it, in fact no one even knew about the tattoo until last week.

so much mad in this thread. last few pages were a fun read.

    serious question:

i keep hearing that mj faced better comp, better big men (that is definitely true), harder fouls, rougher play style, etc etc etc.

imo, players now are bigger faster stronger, across the board.

i never liked the implied notion that given today's rules - fouls, no hand checks, "shitter players" etc - jordan would automatically average a quad-triple using only his left hand.

so do you guys think jordan would beast-mode in this era? would lbj be a fringe allstar in jordan's era?

i mean, when i think of anything else, i favor the contemporary players over the legends of the past, because i think modern sports is bigger, better, faster, stronger. thus harder.

send a-rod/pujols back a generation, and they jack 80hrs. chris johnson would rack up 3000 yards. etc.

lastly, miami in 5. u mad phaggots?

I think both lebron and Jordan would translate to either era. Lebron is incredibly skilled, but ts his physical attributes that push him over. What is he, 6'8 and 250 with the handling and shooting skills of a guard. He's a freak.

Jordan didn't have an overimposing body, but he had a skill set and work ethic we may never see again. Jordan could penetrate as well as anyone in a more defensively demanding NBA, shoot as well as anyone, and was the best perimeter defender the NBA has ever seen. Plus, it isn't like Jordan is a century old. And the basket hasn't changed.

You think Jerry rice isn't the best receiver of all time because he played so long ago?

Tyche is p much right. Both of them would be shitting on people in either era.

Still can't believe with all this hype over Lebron vs MJ, 54% of America thinks the mavericks will win the championship.

well you're right, jordan played pretty recently. so he isn't the best example to use to illustrate my overall point.

    same with rice.

but i will say i don't think rice would have done as well in today's faster, stronger NFL.

the point i'm trying to make is much more clearly evident when there is say a 20+ year gap.

just to clarify, i'm not trying to overly praise today's athlete while belittling legends of yesteryear.

it just seems to me to be the natural result of better conditioning, understanding of nutrition, training, etc etc (science).

jesse owens was an exceptionally fast and an awesome sprinter, but the dude that places 10th in the gold medal race in today's matches is faster than him now.

this isn't really meant to be directly a mj vs bron thing. but i do feel this factor is overlooked and oftentimes viewed to be the complete opposite (nba was harder for jordan, therefore he is that much better, because today's players suck.)

The problem with your conclusion is if the athletes of years past had the same quality of conditioning and weight training they would be just as good as athletes today.

Human beings didn't just evolve into better physical specimens in a span of 30 years. Nowadays people eat better and train harder because the money thats involved now

problem? that is PRECISELY my point.

the fact remains that they DIDN'T have access to what modern day athletes have now. therefore they are inferior. that's why i don't like the "jordan would have averaged 6 championships every season by himself" idea.

edit: if jordan had today's technology/sciences he'd have no problem getting a billion rings.

but i think when people say things like that, they mean they would transplant 1984 jordan and his training/nutrition/etc into 2010 and he'd do fine.

no. he'd be facing beasts that are more athletic, agile, faster, strong etc etc etc.

again, i just cringe when people imply - or directly state - that today's athletes are shit and "back in my day" everything was better. that's the point of my stupid posts.

    thats fucking stupid.

Hey guys lets see who would win between a guy with a gun or a guy with a squirt gun. the winner will determine which should be used by the military from now on.

Point is you can't say if x player played back then he would destroy the NFL/NBA/MLB because unless you have a fucking time machine its not fair and x player would be just as good as weight training/technology of that era.
