He (Shaq), IMO, had all the tools to be the GOAT. He just didnt focus on the game enough in his younger days. He will just have to settle for being the 5th best center of all time.. which isn't to bad.

Hated shaq back in the day when the Lakers were killing the Blazers, but there's no other like him... Looking over his stats it's just ridiculous the percentage he shot from the field throughout his career. He should've retired last year though. Hope he lives for a while, dude needs to lose some serious weight.

I think he's better than that, just because the obvious "dominant centers" you could name played in a time where their opponents were totally overmatched by their size.

Obv. Shaq was huge and that helped his game, but he was playing in a time where every team had a 7-footer, if not multiple ones.

He came in towards the end of the Center era where you had quite a few centers who were great on both ends of the floor..so you can argue that helped him a ton.

My rational for the 4 ahead of him (in no order) are that Wilt was the most dominate offensive force ever and was maybe decades ahead of his time, Russell was the cornerstone of a team that could not be beat, Kareem was so good for so long, and Hakeem (opinon may be scewed by homer glasses) was one of, if not the, most well rounded great players. Shaq did things someone his size had no business doing...but he did have a habit of coming into the season out of shape and unprepared.

Shaq was great for the NBA, every sport would benefit from having someone like him. He can't be replaced in a lot of ways.

Good to see Shaq retire. He was my favorite player to hate. As a San Antonio native, I remember seeing him play in high school. Out of all of Shaq's stats, the most I will remember him for is his league leading amount of nicknames.

David Robinson was Shaq's role model when he was a kid. If you think Hakeem is top 5, then you have to think the same for Mr. Robinson.

I loved Robinson, he sorta got a raw deal like Dirk, stuck with subpar team mates almost his entire career. At least he finally got some Allstars in their prime on his team.

That would be a dumb excuse, it's in his non shooting hand and historically hasn't done much to affect a players shooting. I suppose it could affect other areas like rebounding.

Good thing you're the king of dumb excuses. Dirk rebounding? That's a good laugh.

He averages 10 rebounds in the playoffs O.o Only 4 players averaging 25pts/10rebounds in history.

Obviously he's got less this postseason since he actually has a competent center on his team for the first time in his career.

    Ericka Dampier was pretty competent.
