    Rapper-slash-Humanitarian Immortal Technique

Immortal talks about helping build an orphanage in Kabul, Afghanistan, how people are not getting much of the relief money in Haiti and how he chose to invest his money in buying and developing land in South America (Peru) instead of spending his money on jewelry and cars. He states that he has made his money back 3 times!

I don't really like rap. But I like this.

It's a shame so many rich people are douches. It's good to see they're not all bad.

It's really too bad that charity organization are horribly inefficient and tend to give the bulk of the money to the corrupt administrator or local officials

Not only are there duechebags in congress blocking the aid that we promised from ever reaching Haiti, this type of news sucks too.

Oxfam: Int’l Community Is Undercutting Haitian Agriculture

In news from Haiti, the aid agency Oxfam says a massive influx of free foreign food after January’s earthquake helped feed many displaced people but undercut Haitian agriculture and hurt farmers’ incomes. Oxfam says the international community needs to help develop Haiti’s agriculture-based economy. The problem dates back over a decade. Earlier this year former President Clinton publicly apologized for forcing Haiti to drop tariffs on imported subsidized US rice during his time in office. The policy wiped out Haitian rice farming and seriously damaged Haiti’s ability to be self-sufficient.

Yeah, because the hurricane wouldn't have totally fucked up their local agriculture anyway. Cheaper food is obviously their problem.

No. Their problem is having nothing that the rest of the world wants.

This guy is terrible. Just because he raps about social issues doesn't make him a good rapper. Monotone flow and delivery helped by some decent beats. His content is too boring to be accepted outside of bleeding heart backpackers. and lol about where he invest money, he doesn't sell cds and I'd be surprise if he gets more than $2,000 a show

Haha, that nice, obviously you don't dig underground rap, but least you could do is address the OP. I would've put this in entertainment section if I was looking for an opinion on the dude's flow.

edit: This video is a perfect example between backpackers and dudes who put action behind their words. So, many dudes will talk about the problems and don't do shit about it.

edit2: Lupe killt it, climbing fucking mountains and shit!

You posted a video of him rapping hence an opinion on his terrible flow. He had some decent songs on his last album but one line got me -

"how he chose to invest his money in buying and developing land in South America (Peru) instead of spending his money on jewelry and cars"

I think he's full of shit. It's cool to stay in that little niche conspiracy rap thing he has going on but the whole "Hey look at me being charitable while the rest of you idolize material things!" gimme a break

Didn't take long for the conspiracy theorist label to come out.

Yeah, fuck a dude for trying to denounce rapper stereotypes of idolizing meaningless material garbage and spitting lyrics that actually stimulate the mind. This dude is so well educated, he makes most history professors look elementary.

How do you get the impression that somehow his whole career is a fraud, when rapping about bullshit makes so much more money? Before you open your mouth about how much he sucks so he was forced to stay indy, he was offered deals from Sony and Def Jam, so its obviously not an act.

It doesn't matter what he raps about; cars, girls, drugs, new world order... he can't make songs that will appeal to mainstream so he will always be "underground". So we're going to act like artists like 2pac didn't do the exact same thing as him but more successful?

btw the guy's a convicted felon, didn't he get his degree from jail or something? I could go stand on 34th ST in front of some black isrealites if I want to hear what he's preaching.

Immortal is amazing. Another good listen is Canibus, and we're not talking second round K.O Canibus. KRS-One has also gotten more into the polisocial rap. Jedi Mind Tricks and Army of the Pharohs is kinda on the same ground, but not near the same level as Immortal Technique.

One of my favorite Immortal lines:
"You better watch what the fuck flies outta ya mouth
Or I'ma hijack a plane and fly it into your house
Burn your apartment with your family tied to the couch
And slit your throat, so when you scream, only blood comes out"

During his teenage years he was arrested multiple times due in part to what he has said was "selfish and childish" behavior. He attended Hunter College High School on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Shortly after enrolling in Pennsylvania State University, he was arrested and charged with assault-related offenses due to his involvement in an altercation between some fellow students and drug dealers. The charges stemming from this incident led to his being incarcerated for a year. After being paroled, he took political science classes at Baruch College in New York City for two semesters at the behest of his father, who allowed Technique to live with him on the condition that he go to school
By the way, 2pac was battling censorship and manipulation of his lyrics his whole career. Do you think with 2 corporate entities that they would let anything even close to what 2pac got away with, lyrically, today? How you measure success is irrelevant, do some research on this guy's contributions and achievements. Maybe you will change your mind.

lol quotes for days, that's what I love about IT. Man is a lyrical beast.

edit: I also noticed that KRS is doing less old-man raps and gettin into the politcal-socio rap. His album with Buckshot was nice.
