You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    Another newb car part question

So about a month ago a part of my car went missing. I dunno how this can just fall out, but it was no where to be found (maybe some idiot teenagers? iono). It's the grate on the front of my car:

( the passenger side is the one missing not the driver).

I don't know what the technical term is for it to order the part to replace it.

I tried typing in passenger side grate volkswagen beetle into google, and got nothing useful that I could see. So I'm guessing it's called something else.

So really I have two questions:

    1. how hard is this to do it myself

    2. can someone direct me to a link of this part being sold. Again the image is the driver's side, but I need the passenger's side one.

    Thanks in advance!

My first though it to contact a dealership. Shit can be expensive that route naturally but you can start finding answers there first. If the guys there are nice enough they can point you into cheaper directions. Special parts like that are either ordered new, or salvaged in yards. (which you can do yourself actually)

I am going to take a wild guess that it is a 2005+ VW beetle? if that is the case then head on down to your local VW dealership and ask for a front bumper cover grill w/o foglights(or with fog lights if you have them), going to set you back a few bucks.....oh quick edit, a "U-Pull it" style yard will not have the part if it is newer then 10years on the average, try a salvage yard that pulls parts for you as they tend to specialize in latest model vehicles

I wanted to hide this from the dealership if possible. Maybe this doesn't matter but it's a lease, and I turn it in in about two months from now. I dunno if that will decrease the equity on it.

Just take it to the dealer, it's not a hard part to replace nor does it in anyway devalue the car to a point where the dealer would force you to buy the car when the lease is done. Just take it in and have the work done right.

You could find out what the part is called (specific model/year most likely), call the parts department of any VW/Porsche dealership and buy just that, pick it up, slap it in. Good to go. Chances are, little aesthetic facia things like that just snap into place.

what's the year and is it anything specific like a turbo? with or without the fog lamps?

If worse comes to worse, you might be forced to buy all three of those grill parts as a set. If that's the case, it's just the black plastic grill. If they are separate, say driver's side grill

it's a 2006, and it's not turbo. no fog lamps. It's basically the same model as the pic.

They're called inserts. Left, right, and center. Use www.yelp.com to look up some reliable local body shops, and contact them, asking if you can order a part through them (specifying that you wouldn't want them to install it). See if they can order left or right bumper inserts for your specific model.

Alternatively, you can order an OEM/aftermarket part online (and it would likely be significantly cheaper), but I don't have any vendors to recommend. If you follow this route, make sure the site you're pursuing has free customer support (so you can ensure you're getting what you want), and do a little Googling to ensure they're not shitty.

Go down to your local junkyard, point to what you need, and theyll give it to you for like 5~15$

Youd be surprised at how most of the stuff in junkyards (smaller stuff at least, less chance for those types of things to get dinged up) are in very/good condition.

seph is right, parts like those are in most cases unscathed. If anything they are covered with dust/dirt from the junkyard. If you do want it new and have some local "ricerocket" body shops for some aftermarket version. for like-new id go to a VW forum and find someone parting out their vw w/ forum members discount pricing.

Looks like about half the price here.

A year and model would be awfully handy in finding stuff.
