You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    I will admit that latitude/longitude are listed as (y,x) but a grid/graphs is (x,y)

So then the debates comes to whether they should be viewed as grids or as latitude longitude coordinates.

I still stick with the (x,y) because ffxi did it and wow does it. They are considered points on a field. you are finding a specific spot in a coordinate, so should be (x,y)

I don't know what you mean by "X=Latitude for maps". It's not. When you say latitude 35, longitude 90, you are talking about a position of 35 along the Y AXIS. Y=35. It's not X, I mean it just isn't. I don't know what else to say.

Why would you label latitude as anything other than Y, that's exactly what it is, just like any other graph. The y AXIS goes up and down. But y=5, y=10, or y=1000000 are all HORIZONTAL lines.

lol. Actually it doesn't use anything because it doesn't have a way to give you the coordinates of your current location. So no, it doesn't use X and Y coordinates. But go figure, all the people maintaining the map websites just magically and coincidentally started expressing coordinates in latitude, longitude. Amazing right? I wonder if it's related to the fact that cartographers have standardized on the convention of (y,x) for maps.

I'm not even opposed to this, but if they do that they need to change the columns to letters. Either way, my original point still stands, which is that the current system makes sense. Just like your proposed system also makes sense.

But ummm...the ummm...world is put on a grid map...they even block it off to look just like FFXIV and FFXI...really... What geographical concepts don't apply? Last time I went out "red-light" map reading it looked just like a grid to me. We even say "GRID COORDINATES NOVEMBER 46.Niner-1" when relaying to special people.

they don't need to do anything, just add <pos> and have it be done and over with. Until then though more evidence supports the idea of (x,y) then (y,x)

The "this isn't earth so we don't have to use the only system to find a location on a map on the planet earth because it isn't really earth" thing is retarded. I am now not on your side Ksandra. More evidence supports a crap grid system to read a map than the only system we actually have to read maps?

We have a system on earth for reading time also 13:21 on the clock what time is it? Thirteen-Twenty One? Nope in FFXI lets call it Twenty One-Thirteen! I mean it isn't earth it is a fantasy land, we can give the minutes before the hours.

Latitude and longitude were devised to be able to plot specific points across the surface of Earth, which is a sphere (albeit an imperfect one).

Eorzea is not a sphere. It is a flat world divided into separate grids and subgrids.

I'll remember that next time I walk out into the woods holding a globe to find my way around instead of a flat map with perfect square coordinates read the exact same way.

Eorzea isn't a sphere? But I see stars in the night sky reigning down on me. Should we throw in some altitude as well? They have shades on their "grids" that suggest altitude changes.

Edit: Ummm there is a thing that lets people adjust from the globe to a "grid" map. It's called True North, Magnetic North and grid north. That's what alleviates us carrying a massive globe around with us...

Exactly use common sense when reading a map, stop roleplaying assumed map reading in imaginary ways.

Edit: P.S. Ksandra switched sides on like late page 2. Can't trust her with all the flip-flopping and side changing. I am sincere in my opinion that it is read lat,lon though

    Nitpick: Eorzea's not a planet.
