Question: What the fuck is up with repairing an item failing at random? I was a rank 5 Goldsmith and could repair my brass spear 5 times in a row, eventually I ranked up to rank 10 Goldsmith, now I fail to repair my spear 2 out of 3 times.

In my case it required Bronze Rings to repair both the Sollerets and Haubergeon and as rank 15 I can make Bronze Rings easily but I could not repair the gear. I wouldn't count on that theory past the early levels. Also as an aside, it wasn't that I was failing the synth, I was unable to even attempt it.

I agree there, you should not be able to fail a repair. Sucks to lose mats while repairing for someone else.

Or you can, you know, drop by the respective guild and just ask for repairs in /say with a decent gil/shard reward in your bazaar. I guarantee you one of the dozen crafters around will be more than glad to respond (so long as you aren't one of the retards putting damaged items and offering 1 gil for repairs).

As long as your reward is adequet, people will repair that shit easy. Most of the times, you see people offering 1-100 gil for a repair. That isn't worth the time even taken to look at their bazaar. Need to offer a lot more, like a minimum of 1k.

The repair rumor I got is that you can repair if you are 50% or higher then the synth require lv

Exemple Something is crafted at lv 24 weaver

You should be able to repair it at lv 12+ weaver

That seems to be more or less accurate, but some synths are just weird and don't follow that. Bronze Celatas, for example, I've been able to make reliably since rank 20 and yet I still can't repair them (the game won't even let me try) at 27.

Maybe the optimal rank of the gear is also a factor in repairing, the celata is rank38 optimal afaik, even though you can craft it before rank20 armorer. Wasn't able to repair a hauby before rank22 Armorer eventhough it was possible to make them at rank18 and it's like rank27 optimal if I remember correctly.

You can play (and be somewhat poor compared to others if that doesn't bother you) through the game fine. Through chests and items in higher level leve's (like velvet gear that sells for 100-200K at Lv 30) you make a living at least to repair your stuff cone in awhile. (If you get gear from Lv 40 leve's could probably sell for like 300K-500K+ atm)

The down side to all of this is... if you weren't a crafter at the start of ffxiv, you won't have anywhere remotely the amount of gil they have/making. Also you can't repair your stuff, and having "heavily damage" weapon/armor is very much noticeable... to the point whatever your exp'ing on will probably rape you at higher levels.

For now you can hammer out a good living just getting gil from leves and selling the crystals/shards you get while adventuring. Several people in my ls make 100-200k a day just on crystals/shards/leves which is more than enough to stay equipped and have gil left over for repair rewards.

Don't know how long that strategy will last but they are doing quite well. One guy has over 2M liquid + equipment just from selling what he brings in while fighting. In his words "I just hope I can stay afloat until they add a Valkurm Emperor".

Not sure that's always the case.

Brass Gladius is a 21-30 synth, my blacksmith is 16, so by definition I'm over half the level.

Won't even let me attempt the repair.

It's probably the same +10 difference involved in crafting the item in the first place.

It's brass, so the likely repair class is Goldsmith, not Blacksmith. (I agree, this is stupid)

I don't repair too often except for ppl I know or who ask me specifically, but it seems to me that if I can make the item I can repair it with much ease. As far as crafting, shit is fun. I'm making madd money off of it already. I don't buy shards though, except maybe once I bought like 2 crystals, lol. When I run out I go and grind some sp for my gladiator.

I'm actually curious about this as it's annoying me. Rank 15 is the craft level for the celata. Rank 21 is the craft level for hauby. I couldn't repair the latter until I hit 17 AS, but now at 20 AS I cannot repair the celata even though I made it a while ago. I could definitely repair the hauby before 20 though.

Brass Gladius and Dagger are both repaired by Goldsmith.
