Final Fantasy: the 4 heroes of Light (NDS)

    http://ff4heroes.com/eu/

English version of the game is out. Any word on it?
Looks like your average NDS RPG (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just lots of them out there) but it has the job system which is always a good thing.

seems very watered down for an FF spin-off. crown system seems interesting but each job is really simple.. some are pretty ridiculous but its prolly targeted at a younger age..
disappointed that there isnt a summoner like class in a modern day FF tho, even if its a spin-off

The title made me think of FF1.

I love it. They managed to capture a retro feeling with making the game sluggish and tedious like FF3DS was. I like the strong emphasis on inventory management, buffing/debuffing and elemental strength/weaknesses, things that usually go completely unnoticed in regular FF games since they are so easy.
Also, art direction and soudtrack are top notch.

By far the best recent FF spin off, too bad it will probably sell like shit considering how little hype it generated.

Is it an anti-piracy thing or is this game ball bustingly hard? I went to the first dungeon and got slaughtered by the first boss because I have no healing items. I tried to grind outside the town to afford healing items, but the mobs are dropping no money and some of them 1-shot me easy. Also 1 - 3 exp per battle.

You get money by selling gems, which are also used to power up your jobs and weapons, so you need to balance that out.

2 (or was it even 3 ? idr) heroes start the game with Cure, so potions aren't much of a necessity, especially since MP don't exist in this game.

Fuck the first boss and his back to back aoe wing attack.

It is a bit difficult, trying to do a minimum level run myself so meh. Still getting used to some mechanics like no targeting and no options lol.

Yeah i don't know how i feel about the no targeting. While i haven't run into an issue yet where they cure someone I don't want them to, i know its bound to happen and i'll get killed and get pissed off.

Er, what? I beat the first boss easily. Never had to use a potion. Took like five minutes.

Lucky you then, random moves are random.

I haven't had much time to play it but so far I'm having great fun. Just arrived at Urbeth.
Unlocking Musician early sure helps and BLM is just so fun with no MP to worry about!

I picked it up on amazon when it was like 14.99 or something like that (maybe 17.99) Going to use it as a stocking stuffer, hopefully it will be enjoyed.

I was really liking this game up until <stupid princess> has to trek up <Ice Tower> on her own and has nothing to make up the difference between super low attack, super low defense or healing/curative abilities. At that point battles were just entirely luck-based and I wasn't in the mood to die repeatedly on whatever boss I'd find and left it there.

God damn I was looking for this thread in Gaming general forever, I totally forgot about the SE-only forum >_>

I'm liking it a lot so far, especially the crown system! The battle system in general is pretty nice, as is the weapon/armor system.

I'm a little confused what to do on some boss fights, just because it's sort of difficult to really try out all of the crowns because some of them have abilities that are only good if they are upgraded crowns, but I've been playing a ton of it this week and I'll probably be beating it tomorrow or in the next few days, I know there's a bit of post-game content also which I want to try.

edit: party discussion ahead, i'll spoiler for crowns if you don't want to know what some of them are
    Spoiler: show
Right now my party is Hero/Salve Maker/Ranger/Elementalist, it worked out really well for the Leviathan fight but I'm not sure what to do on Beelzebub since he takes like 90% reduced damage from everything, and he always gets me with that "Angel's Fall" or whatever it is. What are you guys running for groups or what abilities do you find useful? I like Wrath (Hero 3) and Mysterio (Ele 3) the best so far, they seem to be among the most all-around useful abiltiies, Wrath for huge damage and Mysterio just stops like all ele damage from mattering, especially if you have the right shield equipped for a particular boss fight.
