obvious spoof is obvious. If you don't even play wow how do you even need to ask?

You can check the headers of the message or the "message source" to see where the message originated from. Most of the time you will see that it is a free email address like hotmail or gmail that the message is coming from. They use an open relay server to spoof out of most of the time so it's easy to catch when you look at the headers.
