FFXIV Flame Wars Thread: because ten threads is not enough threads

It is what it is, BRP. When mods crack down, I'll tighten up, but I'm inclined to agree with what I've heard thus far. What, 30,000 TOTAL people play XIV? Break that down into how many on BG. Not much. The XIV section in general has been dead since early October. There isn't much to mod other than the same 4-5 people keeping shit alive with passionate fire.

FFXI was the least time sensitive mmo in 2002 and also the first mmo that was playable on a console.It also had the luxury of coming to America after the game had something to it. I played 11 in the beginning with the push to be able to hit max level and do shit I was seeing on the internet, things as simple as getting my AF for blm or fighting shadowlord. its laughable in the long run, but it was a goal you were working towards, not just trying to hit max level and then wait months for content, or even longer for content that doesn't suck. Unfortunately, the aspects that helped 11 achieve success early on are not really being repeated here, at all.

Every part of ffxi, especially in its early stages, was a massive time sink. As far as I'm concerned the fact that you made such a retarded statement leads me to second guess the validity of anything you've said previously. Also, the part I bolded is a huge part of the problem most NA players are having with FFXIV today.

1. It is no longer the most laid back mmo available. Casual players are not going to play multiple mmo generally, and are not going to play an mmo that is less casual than what they are already playing. Some will most likely try it if the game EVER gets some good press, but that is doubtful. When I say good press, I mean not just reviews but a game forum to not be plastered with player accounts of how horrible the game is.

2. It will not be the only mmo on a console, the new DC game is coming out on console, as well as a few others in the future. The DC game may be laughable, that is up to personal taste. However, I think those casual players will latch right onto it.

3. A lot of people 14 could attract, mainly 11 players, are basically saying fuck 14 I'm playing 11 still, especially in light of recent updates. The people who have quit 11 for 14 are the butthurt ones about having their 700 days playtime gear being obsoleted. Personally, my only qualm with current 11 is the magian trials are pretty much crap... but thats a whole different topic.

All my blame goes to the inept mod team. What the posters are doing is against the rules/principles stated in this thread, but rules are rarely enforced.

First off, if you are going to cite a number, it should be from a decent source. While the actual number is probably low(compared to XI anyway), if your source is the chart JPs put together(likely second-handed, via sankakucomplexw/e) it doesn't tell you the total number of people playing. Though it doesn't matter if 5,000 people were playing, if the same amount of people are still posting in this forum. (There are games with no online interaction, with under 30,000 regular players, that can get top-tier discussion. Not a viable excuse.)

Given the small following, it is a good opportunity to impose quality over quantity. With fewer people, one or two mods can do more things. Trolls and "white-knights" bickering doesn't need to exist. Almost all of that is for the benefit of their egos and to vent some steam. It is public cybersex.

(When it comes to FFXIV vs MMO, FFXIV is bad, FFXIV is not bad, etc - opinions/ideas don't matter so much as winning. In a FFXIV forum FFXIV is dominant, so it doesn't matter if someone thinks it is bad or not as good as some other MMO. There is always room for people to voice their discontent(for individual aspects of the game or the direction SE is going), but what this forum is becoming is a bunch of people who don't play this game(or will not play it for much longer) are saying it is bad... this leads to someone who does play the game responding, and sparking another pointless flamewar. How Blizzard would handle culture-references in a hypothetical worldwide release is important in all of this. Cybersex.)

1) Those new finding from new updates will need a base to stand on. This base should be both organized and without trash. There is no upside doing nothing other than relief for laziness.

2) The same excuse was used before the game released. And it will be used continually until there are mods who hold any interest in the game. "They don't care"

3) There are people who are reporting discoveries right now. There are things to be learned from this forum, even if comparably scarce, and that will only increase later this month.

It would be miraculous if someone who takes part in these discussion became a mod, instead of an internet-girl some loser admin is crushing on.

Quite honestly, until January I have a lot of free time on my hands. Note how many posts I have made here in 6 years? A decent amount of them are just here lately in boredom getting silly people worked up some, and posting personal opinions depending on my mood. Venting? Definitely. Additionally its hard not to respond to some people!

BG started as an ffxi forum. Whatever games may be added, that is what made it a well known site. There are sites that were huge and important to the EQ community for example, that now continue to have the same posters talking about WoW and other newer games but no real new blood goes there to talk those games up and they do not end up being important sites for the community at large. What is my point? The BG forums of ff14 likely won't be this one. Its full of too many jaded old people. That forum won't really burst out until there is something to burst out about or people playing who feel like bursting out about it.
