It is. Transparency of that nature isn't something SE is familiar with, nor willing to experiment with. The best I felt it ever got in FFXI was "Latent Effect: X". of course you still had to figure out how to trigger that, and that was part of the metagame of FFXI, which I felt brought a uniqueness to the game. However when it bled into stuff like how to kill AV and shady zoom-in videos, you had to wonder what the hell they were thinking not having some kind of in-game clues or anything to go on. Part and partial due to the stone-age client, which is what we have here now. I think the largest improvement in visuals is probably incapacitation, which of course they had to write a lodestone entry about because within the game, you'd be hard-pressed to find any information about how to actually play it. One thing I've always said about SE to my guildmates is they are very good at implementing limitations and very poor at letting you know how anything works (but man, you know those limiting-factors never, ever falter. They are coded rock-solid to prevent you from abusing anything).
It's like they don't want to be competitive in this market.
A fellow in my shell put it like this "Oh boy, too many fish hooks being made per synth; EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE! Fuck we can't get Skill Points in combat; eh, we'll fix that in the next patch in two months."
I just don't get it..
