You wouldn't make it too far in a production or finance career with an attitude like that. You'd seriously spend an additional 30-40m dollars to completely rebuild a working game with admittedly major technical issues, but few fundamental design flaws? You're talking out of your ass.

Name one MMO "on the horizon" that has everything people want in FFXIV? Cataclysm? I can assure you, that most fans of FF are not fans of WoW. No, Cataclysm does not have everything that people want in FFXIV. SWTOR? That game is going to be trash. So please name all these MMOs. Maybe they're unannounced MMOs that are 3 years away and you're just speculating? 3 years is a lot of time for SE to fix some of these problems. The visibility and impact of the issues facing 14 are massive, but the difficulty and/or cost to fix them is not.

Most notable MMO "on the horizon" i can think of atm is http://www.tera-online.com/.

Vindictus looked cool, but seems far too instanced to be worth while.
IMO, TERA Online will, possibly, be what all these former WoW MMO-hoppers have been waiting for.

The game actually does look pretty good so far too. It's pay to play.

    No.

I like video games for long term strategy, not pressing buttons real fast and pretending I've somehow performed some great feat of coordination. But big lols at you.

Everything looks good until it hits. It's hard not to be skeptical about a company with no history at all and coming along and expecting to dethrone some of the most well known and oldest players in the industry.

Realistically speaking, if their lead artists and programmers don't have their names on shipped AAA titles, then chances are they don't have near the experience required to even come close. I suspect the production quality will be decent since the lead producer came from NCSoft, but I have serious doubts about the technical aspects of that game.

This sums it up. Korean business practices are comparable to Japanese business practices in that you will want to eat a bullet sandwich before they solve x*.

    - x: Any one or combination of the multitude of issues encompassing FFXI, FFXIV, or any other Asian MMORPG

You would be more accurate in saying that final fantasy MMORPG players are not usually fans of WoW. In addition to that, the only good system that Cataclysm lacks compared to either final fantasy MMORPG is the dynamic job/class system.

    Another Edit:

This. Guild Wars 2 shows more stability, excitement, and completeness (in its fucking early alpha build) than even a years worth of content updates for FFXIV.

I actually don't mind Korean grinders. Aion at least had a ton more content at launch than FFXIV currently has. There were world spawns, the abyss, PvP (bad, but it was frikkin' there), tons of instances, missions, rifting, quests, big open world, a great UI, etc. FFXIV has levequests (only useful for guildmarks), behests (no one wants to camp-hop to do these when grinding exp is better), and faction leves (which can be solo'd anyway). It's three themes on the same idea and it's crap. I guarantee that Tera and/or Rift: PoT will have a multitude more content when they launch, will look better, not have stupid controls, and actually conform to some standard of gaming on the PC (hotkeys anyone???). I hate to flame the game I play, but good lord SE, what the crap is this you've given us? I expected a lot more and it seems I'm not the only person who feels this way. Not by a longshot.

    This comparison makes me lol.

"Asian grinder" is such a silly term anyway. Without grind, your game won't last if you don't do some magical tricks to keep the playerbase growing almost infinitely. Simple as that.

What's so funny about a comparison that is 100% true across the board. What do you do to gain XP in FFXIV from ranks 1 to 50? Kill mobs in stupidly large parties. What did you do in Aion? Hmm let's see I could go solo, group up to kill elites, do instances, run quests or missions for XP, etc. "lol" all you want, it's a damn fact that Aion was tons better at its launch than FFXIV is now at its launch.

Also, the magic of instances makes the grind actually seem worthwhile. You're going for gear in an instance *while* gaining XP toward next level. SE doesn't believe in that kind of progression. Dynamis never gave jack for XP, neither did Limbus or Einherjar. Only with Abyssea did they start making XP and "end game" content one in the same. It took them like 7-8 years to figure that one out. I guess because nobody at SE plays other, successful (even if only in the short-term) MMORPGs. They try to reinvent the wheel at every turn and after awhile it gets really, really old.

The general content was present in Aion, but the smart development decisions were not. Aion had more pre-orders in North America than FFXIV has subscription numbers in the world, and it's not exactly on top of the MMORPG food chain right now either.

And I wouldn't bother responding to Hyan. He's Finnish.

Aw, have I upset you before? So sorry =(

Aion was not exactly *new* when it came out in North America. Comparing XIV and it is the dumbest thing you could do.

"This comparison makes me lol" is not even remotely close to making a "point". It's just another subjective opinion, probably a prelude to your usual white knighting, of which you have many.
