What better mmos are on the horizon?
Biowares star wars game? The tiny bit of footage released so far looks terribad, and it probably won't hit until 2012 anyway.
TERA? Korean release just got pushed back so u can imagine what that does for the global release.
Blade&Soul? Definitely won't release until 2012 and that one migt not even release global. GW2? Niche game. Not everyone can stand pvp all day.
Ppl that have been playing WoW for a long time are getting bored. Yah cata will bring a lot back but for how long? Not as much on the mmo horizon as u think.
The only deep part of FFXIV is the deep dicking it's giving to morons that defend SE's terrible development decisions.
Guild Wars 2 is the only game that has had any real potential since WoW was released. The developers have shown that they're not mouth-breathers, and despite what real mouth-breathers think, pvp is extremely popular when executed correctly. As I said earlier, I hope it doesn't disappoint.
I don't want Final Fantasy: WoW Edition. I never even played WoW. I want the same as you, ultimately, but I want it to be fun as well. I don't really care about their bottom line either, which is why I think they should have waited, pushed the game back to March with the PS3, and left the game in beta so that they could continue fixing shit. That way when they actually released it, it didn't feel like a broken game to the majority of people playing it. Because that's what it feels like right now.
That way, on top of things actually working and it being much more enjoyable, the press would be able to note how SE decided it wasn't ready, pushed it back, and made sure to release it in a much better form in their reviews. It would have been positive all the way around, except to their bank accounts. Which it still, over time, might end up having been better for. We'll all know roughly how well things will pan out for XIV in about a year, I'm sure.
Wanting communication with SE more akin to the model Blizzard uses doesn't equate to wanting XIV to be "like WoW" either. It just means that we want more respect and information, and a more reliable and public venue for giving feedback, than we got with XI. We shouldn't have to remain in the dark about when/if they're going to fix something, and how, only to have to wait weeks/months/years for the fix or adjustment. Then, when it finally comes, it just breaks it in a different way, and they do the exact same thing again before they readjust it.
Edit: I'm hoping so much to hear something next E3 about Otherland. Most people probably never even heard it was being developed, nor the people doing it (and likely wouldn't care if you did, would pretty much definitely be niche), but I've practically come to the conclusion the game is dead in the water. I loved the books however, and was way more interested in that than XIV originally, before/after XIV was first announced.
I'm sorry? So I can't mock the mass amounts of dumbshit? I thought that's what this thread was about? It's only okay for black knights to hate on white knights, but gray knights can't mock them in response?
Yeah, that's a pretty dumb thing to say. Thanks for showing us what not to say. Cool.
Almost totally agreed. I would've felt pissed, though, if they had waited that long, and am happier to place this very imperfect version and progress happily- although casually- than wait until then.
Whether it pans out or not still remains to be seen, to be honest. If you wanted to play a finished product from the beginning, you'll be disappointed. If you wanted to get in on the ground floor of what you hope turns out to be great, then...well, that also remains to be seen. That way, on top of things actually working and it being much more enjoyable, the press would be able to note how SE decided it wasn't ready, pushed it back, and made sure to release it in a much better form in their reviews. Too much communication can be a very bad thing. If there's too many folk up-in-arms about this, I can get into it when I'm soberer, but the general principle is that that's to be avoided. I can explain more, but it's pretty universal: not only with MMORPGs, but beyond video games and domestic politics in particular.

Ehhh...doesn't look like anyone's gonna wreck me around here, just giving it the once over. Does the forum have a bug anti-common sense juggernaut they've been holding on to for special occasions or something? Most of these folks have problems with the simplest of oppositions: I don't like this and why.
Holy shit @ the news on Lodestone. Now that's what I'm talking about ~
I guess we'll all see you back in December then?
Here's to SE stepping it up a notch in the communication department. Finally~
Well at least they acknowledge this!Considering the nature of much of the feedback we received, however, and the current state of the game, we have decided to extend the free trial period for all users.
More seriously, yes, this is the kind of thing we need.
edit - but ctrl-F doesn't find anything about an auction house![]()
Maybe, just maybe, they'll reverse their stance on charging for each additional retainer and offer them for in-game currency (gil sink?) or something, and just put a limit on how many can be obtained that way.
Still probably won't work long term, but it would make it easier while we wait for them to break down and give us an AH.
Square did give an additional free month for FFXI subscribers in Japan, when it launched.
It's a nice gesture, but I still don't expect much from FFXIV.
Holy shit, there was so much fucking win on the lodestone this morning. I just picked my favorite quote. But since this is the flame thread and all......... WHAT DO U FUCKING HATERS HAVE TO SAY NOW!!!!11For the mid-December update, we will be adding several new recipes, including ones for crafting new gear. In addition, we will be introducing a new feature that will allow players to select recipes from a list of recently crafted items and recipes learned through levequests, and set all of the appropriate ingredients with the touch of a single button, thus making repeated synthesis of a single item a snap!
