FFXIV Flame Wars Thread: because ten threads is not enough threads

I like some of the ideas they have in store, like splitting the most crowded areas loads across multiple backup servers to alleviate strain on the server, which they admitted crushes even the most hardy PC, regardless of specs (so a big fuck you to the naysayers and denyers). I'll check out the updates, especially since they gave me a free month, but I'll probably still hold out until January 1st when the biggest of the current updates actually hit the show room floor.

Not many devs get the freedom to ignore pressure from their money source. Even companies which can publish their own games get pressure, and the people applying pressure (the retarded money men) have no fucking clue what to do.

I know its a rarity in the buiz, and I agree with you, its just more of a shame than anything. These shareholders need to realize that it takes money to make money, and that patience is always key with fickle designs like MMOs. Had any of these sweaty investors did their jobs and researched, they'd have seen the Warhammers, AoCs, Vanguards, and other MMO corpses strewn all across the road. You absolutely have to have patience in this market.

Unless I'm reading that incorrectly, we'll still be limited to searching by the specific ward for things. By making that restriction, they may also limit us to searching for things in that ward that belong in that ward. Or not, maybe they'll let us make blanket searches across all the wards, and no matter which ward it's located the icon will show up for it. Still involves a lot of extra work compared to a central game wide AH that you can access from each city.

Maybe they'll give us retainers for in-game currency, or maybe they'll charge us $1/month per additional retainer we want. (Keep in mind that it's not just about selling things across wards either, it's inventory management.)

This will help, and a lot of the update notes are pretty stellar, but an AH is still pretty vital sooner or later.

It's not like the individual wards are very big. As for all this running around u and Doooom mention, u cover a ward end to end in maybe 10s. And what difference does it make whether they let u search across wards or not? If your in the armor ward u should only be searching for armor etc.

And before u say 10s is a long time, think about how much time u actually spent navigating the AH in ffxi.

Don't really see where the extra work your talking about is. Until this games version of Jueno opens up an AH is utterly pointless. And that's only assuming said city will be a merger of all 3 starting cities economies.

What would an item being in the wrong ward do? If I search for a straw hat I'm not going to care about the moko nuts or w/e other random item the retainer has on it. And who says the bell is going over several retainers. What if they put the bell over the retainer with the lowest price?

You read the part about how clicking a retainer will auto bring u to their bazaar yah? I think 10s is fairly accurate.

And seriously, think about how long it really took u to buy something from the AH in ffxi. Factor in the wg lag and how long it took the list to load and then the price history list to load. Then cancel out and go to make a bid. Damn bid too low repeat process. Etc.

Edit: Not saying ppl won't find a way to circumvent server checks in the future but yah traditional botting/hacking is dead. (Assuming SE actively polices client side hacks against their servers.)

It means having your own time-table of when the game is "finished" enough for retail, and putting it out at that point, not 6 months early in some lame duck attempt to "steal" sales away from a rival product.

Retainers sell different, valid stuff. My NPC is selling different kinds of weapons and armor atm, all from goldsmithing, it's impossible for her to be in the "right" ward. You don't get it do you? Assuming the searches only search one ward it isn't going to help much as there's still every real chance the item you want is on sale cheaper in another ward.

These include the implementation of a search feature that will not only help players locate items in a Market district, but then display an icon next to the retainers who have those items

Well i don't believe it will be a game with short term appeal. GW1 wasn't really an MMO so it to me had short term appeal, but GW2 is an MMO.

Basically what i'm trying to prove is if you take devs that understand what players want and are passionate about building a solid community, then you have yourself a recipe for success.

ArenaNet (GW2) and Trion (Rift) understand that gameplay comes first and that limiting the fun to only endgame will not keep new players resubbed, In GW2's case they don't have to worry since there's no sub and will probably outsell GW1 which sold over 6mil boxes. They're both companies that get it. Sure there's a chance of failure as with any new game, but i just don't see it with those 2. TOR and TERA on the other hand i can see bombing.
