Doubt it.
Doubt it.
As am I, and that's part of the problem. As reviews have picked up, FF14 often dumps you somewhere with no indication of what to do or where to go. Run to first camp, do leve NPC gave you, run back to city, talk to NPC... then what? You'll find the Leve NPCs fine I imagine, but aside from that there is no direction at all. First-time MMOers will be used to RPGs which constantly have story leading you on and indications of where to go, which FF14 lacks.
I can only reply saying that while i was crafting a rank6 (rank6, it was not like the Ultimate Haubergeon of Shiness) piece I had like 10 internet pages open.
Said recipe was made by 5 items, each requiring another synth and in some case, another sub-synth. There was nothing the game UI was doing the help me planning the synth out, unless you consider piece of papers standing on my desk as a 2010 resources for gaming support.
How this is evenly remotely user-friendly is beyond my comprehension.
Hate feeds on delusions and broken promises, actually. When are the people that hate the game going to stop caring?
You know, worst haters were once lovers.
Take a guy that has played all the FF's up to 12, outside of FFXI, the MMO. Then drop him into FFXIV and watch the hilarity.
"What the fuck is this durability?! Breaking every 6 hours?!!"
"Why am I wearing panties? Why can't I take them off?!"
"What the hell is with the menus? They look like the FF's I've played, but they're so slow!"
"Seriously?! I killed a monster and didn't get any experience?! Oh... but that experience didn't go towards my class, right? So basically I just killed a mob in FFT but didn't get any JP?! JP gain is completely random?!! What the fuck?!"
"Why is it so clunky playing a Pala-err Gladiator?! I just want to put up my shield before I get hit!"
"Why is crafting so random?! When was there ever this many random numbers deciding what happens in a game?!"
And so on, and so forth. These were the exact words of a friend of mine, Gazeebo, who tried FFXIV out as his first MMO at my brother's house for a few days when he was considering playing. This is a guy that used to use the old 2-player mode in the old FF's with me so we could both control a few characters. This guy knows almost as much as I do about FF history and lore.
He couldn't believe what he was playing, and couldn't believe that people -pay- to play this. He's also 27, just likeI am; born and raised on the bread and butter old-school Dragon Quest and other RPGs.
I'd seriously rethink your position on this.
I'm guessing that was some sort of debating finishing move but I really couldnt get it.
Eh, just a random comment.
Geez...I have barely played the game in almost a week. I just can't motivate myself to start the game up, come online and do some leves for a probable minimal SP gain, then hope for a decent party in my range looking for members. There is just too much of a chance that any play session at this point will reward me with minimal accomplishment and fun. That is a major deterrent to this game and sadly, I would have to relay this to anyone hoping for an honest opinion for the game.
Thank god Abyssea is so fun lol
My RL friend who hardly has played any MMO's picked up 14 collector's ED like 3 days after the game went live on the 22nd and paid 50$ for it at his local store. Guy told him so many people cancelled at the last minute that they were stuck with a lot of CE's and already dropped the prices on them to get rid of them. He said the store had a shitload of them left when he walked out with it.
My friend played 14 for about a week before he cancelled but he hardly even cared much about the game after around 3 days of playing. He had nothing but bad experiences on 14 and said how much worse it was than when he played vanguard all through-out the BETA and release.
Goddammit, when they can do this again:

They can have my money. All of it. The writing; the angles; the badass introduction to the crystal warriors and just how strong they were. The fucking hype. That CS was the highlight of the game for me. I never wanted to keep playing a game to the end more than when I saw that CS.
Speaking of which, does anyone have that song? Its been a long time since I lost my game files and altanaview, and its not on my OST.
Edit: Look at that Galka transform into the Shadowlord and tank those hits. Such a fucking boss. I miss those days.
The newer WOTG cutscenes really put the age on those original Zilart cutscenes.
I'd say this is just a sample of the best that XI has to offer:
It really is a shame that SE abandoned XI at its peak with regards to cutscenes, they were really starting to perfect the whole process given the ancient tech they had to work with.
What probably is the worst thing is that great cutscenes like this were missed due to SEs mistakes in the past. The same mistakes that will likely shroud the cutscenes and story they have in the works for XIV. It's a shame because this is what SE does best.
It was badass. but it required level 60, which mean you played a few months already. It wasnt there on release either.
@ronin
Lilisette was a badass motherfucker. These cutscenes were my only drive in the last 2 years. Too bad they made they dragged the story over 4 years, because I would have liked seeing the end.
Valid points on both fronts, but then they go around with this new game and really show that they haven't learned a damned thing when it comes to launching a new vessel. Continue where you left off, don't start over from scratch.
Praise from a company's former work only goes so far, especially when the new work is so... disheartening.
