Just because their machine can't handle doesn't mean the blame is entirely on their machine. It's SE's job to use an efficient graphics engine, which they aren't doing. I suspect it's due to trying to develop in a cross-platform way for the PS3. For ease of coding they could just be pushing all of the SPU work onto the CPU, which is terrible, but would explain why CPU demands are so much higher than GPU demands in this game

No one said the blame was entirely on any side. The fact is, you can relieve a large portion of menu lag by getting away from the 9000 other people synthing around you and/or turning your settings down. What that says about people's machines/settings or Crystal Tools, I'm not sure. Some of it can be alleviated, and most people don't bother.

Been said before in various ways, but still:

Square-Enix has already made an MMO...that is still running. They should know better than this. For a game company making their first MMO, XI's bug issues at the start were perfectly excusable. As time went on, the issues they let slip by or let stew in the game became less excusable, but still just tolerable enough to keep people playing without a huge impact on the playerbase.

Today, there is no excuse. XIV may be a brand new commodity SE is selling, but there is little evidence that they have learned from their past mistakes. In the kind of MMO market that exists today, FFXIV's only two saving graces for netting customers are going to be its name and its graphics; the latter will be eclipsed quickly by better games in the near future, the patience of the fanbase of the former already wearing thin.

XIV was a rushed release. The beta was much too short and I find it difficult to believe that SE learned anything substantial from that small period of time, much less had time to fix most of the issues presented. It's completely laughable, by the way, that the Playstation 3 release was essentially delayed an extra half a year, considering it was the platform they were assumedly aiming for in the first place. (Japan in particular seems to prefer playing on console vs PC, even for games like this). SE's bad behavior regarding MMO is just continuing from XI to XIV. It's a testament to people being fed up with this shit (most of whom were already fed up with this shit, XI-style) that practically everyone in this thread is canceling until SE pulls its globe out of its posterior.

On a personal note, I won't be playing at all. College and a sudden lack of interest in MMO gameplay that started about half a year ago are my main reasons. Absent those, I still wouldn't play - XIV tries too hard to be XI. I would have preferred a repackaging of XI with shiny new graphics and the discontinuation of the PS2 version.

FFXI is an amazing game, you really can't say anything to contrary. It may be a big time sink, but lets face it its a damn good game.

Menus still lagged for me in my own personal market ward while crafting. No amount of solitude makes up for having to send all that information needlessly back and forth for every button click.

Maybe 10 years ago but not many people can go back and put up with that shit again I know I can't. XI had one of the funniest class systems I've played in an MMO. I'd probably even go on to say it's better than XIV's.

I can't say I'm angry. I can't say I'm happy. I can say I have faith. I know there was a lot wrong with FFXI when it came out, but honestly, we got 11 in the US 1 year after it was out in Japan. This is why I am keeping my head high. I expect 14 will grow, and evolve into a great game. FFXIV has the potential to be an amazing game, you all cannot deny that.

I strongly feel the core of the game is amazing, crafting has a new twist, leveling is interesting. We just need to learn the system. I'll admit it's tough for people who expect instructions to be handed to you on how to play the game. However, in 11 it was part of the satisfaction in doing something that was not 100% explained to you, well me. The storyline in 11, albeit originally difficult to proceed through, was amazing. You cannot deny the satisfaction you got in beating COP with it being so difficult, before it was nerfed.

With 14 I expect no different. The story already has me drawn in, and the amount of story content thus far has me satisfied. Now I know you are not me, and I am sorry for that. (lol jk trying to be funny) Anyways this game will evolve into something great I can assure you that.

After hours of tweaking, hours of trial and error, I finally have the game playing incredibly smooth the UI has minimal lag (despite there still being some) but in time even the UI can be tweaked by SE. It seems to me the biggest gripe is the cut and paste graphics, and the lack of an AH. Sure there are some areas cut and pasted but I can deal with that. Just have a beer or two and you'll get over it, promise. However not having an AH, well, that can't be looked over. Let's see how the market ward tweaks are as this game is tweaked. Perhaps this system will revolutionize everything else. While I doubt it, I do suspect SE will succumb to the wishes of the vast majority playing 14 and add an AH.

I am sorry if this is too long, well actually, no I am not sorry but this is my opinion. What I am saying is have faith, give SE honest feedback and support, I have a hunch they will listen. if after an extended period of time they do not abandon ship. I will admit it is rather frustrating to have my Aion Chanter sitting at 54 knowing this game has so many flaws and that game is rather polished.... I am following my Final Fantasy fan boy instinct though.... Perhaps it is too little too late, but only time will tell.

    Yes, it was.

I do wonder how much it sucked at release though.

Considering it didn't have the AH yet, there was a limit on how many people could be in Jeuno at once, soloing past 10 was beyond a pain in the ass, and camps were such that 5k/hour was considered good (remember, not even Jungles existed back then) with 10k/hour being considered godmode, I'd say FFXI sucked quite a bit at release.

This is why I have some amount of faith that FF14 will get better over time. Doesn't excuse it from not having some things it should've had right at release, but I'm not making any final judgements yet.

What is wrong with it? More in depth than any current MMO out, only downside to ffxi is the time commitment imo.

Idk you would think they would learn something from their mistakes or at least know better than to have 5% content out at launch. But rushed release etc, I really am not interested tho due to the stupid jobs they have.

Well i paid over 60€ for the game and 20€ for UPS delivery. So basically i paid over 100€ (+ Crysta) to try un Unfinished game that was intentionally released early, no matter what stage the process was at. All they wanted to do was to release it early, before Cataclysm and others.

Now this is what i don't understand; Why would SE make an early release and basically force themselves into getting shit reviews, making people even more suspicious than they already are. I mean most of FF14 players played FF11 and we are aware of how retarded they are.

So when i read an interview where someone got to sit down with Tanaka and other fags, i can't just quite get it how they can keep it cool and ask about UI lag. I would punch him in the face and ask what the fuck are you guys doing and WHY, and especially to those who have supported FF11 through the tough times.

Also, i know it's an MMO, but whats up with the storylines they are creating nowadays. Sure i can't judge yet by the opening Gridania scene, but what the fuck is up with the "Tree chases ya and ur fucked and ppl rescue ya". Where are the touching storys, that were the key to FF's success? Yes, those one that would make any grown man break into tears. I surely haven't seen them since FF10.

This is a Japanese company we're talking about. They take pride in how rigid they are, and in doing the exact same things every damn time. Plus the only market they really care about is the Japanese console market. Bitching about that though is like a Japanese gamer bitching that Blizzard doesn't do enough for WoW in Japan.

Are we talking about the same company that refuses to do things the same way with every title of the same franchise, insisting on trying to "reinvent the wheel" even if it makes everyone hate it? I'm pretty sure most people wish they did things the same way this time around.

Not trolling but many of you who didn't get past rank 15 will probably get mad and let me know just how mad you are:

I really don't see how these reviews/people can complain about there not being enough guildleves to do. It has gotten to the point where I don't even do regionals anymore because I'm too busy crafting, selling, browsing, farming, and grinding (better SP than leves anyway). I honestly feel like it should go back to being 2 days just so I can have a break every once in awhile. Yes, I'm aware 2 of those are game design faults, doesn't mean I'm not strapped for time though.

As for the AH: I don't really want one. With the amount of crafters currently you would not be able to make money selling those middle of the road items. The only people who could make enough to pay for their crafting are the ones making the items first. The rest will have to fight over who's going to break even. Shards/crystals are basically currency right now and I don't even want to begin to imagine what would happen if SE introduced an AH tomorrow. I feel like a sorted Market Wards is the best option at this point in time. Worthless gil is better than not having gil at all.

Not saying there aren't any faults with the game. It's just those two should definitely not be a main focus of the bitching.

I happy to say I got to play the CE version of FFXIV and didn't play a single cent for this shit. I still think SE will fix the major flaws, but the real question is, how long is that going to take them? Probably PS3 release.

Pretty but everything else is mediocre? Sure the gameplay's different but that seems to be a recurring theme with Square.

Except they don't like FF14 either.
Which means SE's going to bust their asses and get this game more palatable... but favouring the JP complaints over the NA ones.

Pretty much this exactly. Going about to the various cities to get the best 8 of each kind of leve each cycle, doing my crafting, selling drops, mining, and going through the monstrous market wards takes up a surprising amount of my time. And I don't even grind mobs outside of leves or grind crafting past what it takes to make stuff for myself and my LS. I wouldn't say I'd want a 48-hour timer, although the switchover being at 5 PM every other day is really annoying.
