You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Yes, that's what would make this game better, griefing.

The topic spawned out of talking about how Eorzea is void of life/interaction. My apologies for assuming the discussion followed any normal thought process instead of a post count dumping ground.

Nostalgia talk is often a tangent on conversation. If anything it just means people feel they won't get fond memories for FFXIV as they did in FFXI. Doesn't mean those memories have to be the same thing.

What the hell is wrong with you, no one said it should be in FXIV. It was obviously a huge design oversight, but that doesnt mean I didn't like it.

In my early day, the train broke away from the monotomy of many xp sessions. It was entertaining to watch people dies, to cower in fear in a small alcove hoping that Death would let you live....it was brutal, and sometime lasted a little too long, but I've much better memories of this than crabs, mandragora or collibri massacres.

    [edit]
And shit, massive train are always hilarious . I hope we will have dynamis-like instance for it.

I already apologized for drawing a parallel between hating XIV, liking XI, and enjoying watching people die to trains.

So salty, my goodness! What kind of "normal" thought process could follow at any rate? Trains were a hilarious and frustrating memory for many; a memory that evokes nostalgia.

On that note, I enjoyed watching people die to trains in XI, and I enjoyed watching people die to rock-hurling mithra in XIV. Its just not the same, though.

In XI, it was hilarious. In XIV, its almost pitiable, since the run-back is often times so long.

Run times in XI were not "so long"? Sure you had chocobos and shit, but the world was slightly larger too. I don't see the difference.

Except, of course the fact that the experience "is just not the same" second time around, which is completely normal. That's all there is to it.

Nah, I'm really comparing the shroud to the jungle. You fight at a camp in the shroud, or try to make a run to a particular leve, get skulled, and its a 10-15 minute run back. You got got skulled in yhoator or yuhtunga in an xp party and it was much shorter, even without a choco.

They're similar, but yeah, I guess now I don't have the patience for it since I've already done it a million times the first time around. That's probably plausible. Its like a risky joke or something; its funny the first few times, but when you hear it again after a few years, yeah... no.

My bad, I didnt notice there was another page when I replied.

But now that you mention it, I don't like the way you kite/train monsters in FFXIV. It remind me of WoW (in a bad way) more than FFXI. When you were running away in FFXI, the only thing you could do is look in front of you, cut corner, and pray no one stand in your way...It was intense, and scary.

In FFXIV/WoW (or most mmo), monsters give up so easily it rarely lead to epic chase.

Run time in XI were incredibly long, that's one of the reason why I always prefered loca respawn over static homepoint (or at least, allow players to have more than 1 home point). It wasnt so bad after ToA if you were carrying teleport-ring, with silver coin, and homepoint in whitegate, but still...

Monsters in general seem to lack that "something". I don't know what exactly though.

They were more... predictable in XI. The way they moved in the field was "natural", aggro ranges made sense etc.

Sorry to feed the fire but the first time a Roseling aggroed me it felt so.. bug-ish, instead of a goblin smithy suddenly turning toward you and grunt.

When i was browing beta screenshots, I noticed the "Puck is aware of your presence" messages and they were a nice idea imho, but now that I'm actually playing, monsters overkill me without a notice. There's no aggro sound nor message and it's just poor executed, also because of the damn ranged attacks.

That's SE fault in my opinion.
Your feelings are absolutely predictable and that's why you don't release a new game which feels exaclty the same as your former 10-yrs long game.
I reach rank20 in FF14 and what's on the agenda? Party grind on CRABS? Lol, feels like a cruel joke more than anything else

You do get that msg that "the monster is aware of your presence," but it doesn't always appear right away because of lag. So you can get the msg and die 2 seconds later. That, and there is no sight/sound mechanics in XIV, so the aggro feels very basic

I know what you guys mean. Aggro in XI was like... "oh shit OH SHIT!!", especially since they were so damned tenacious. Even the armored goblins looked so vicious with their bloodshot little beady eyes as they tried to lay into me with a longsword. It was pretty basic, but it was clean, even if the latency issues made it look like someone was getting hit 30 feet away by a melee swipe sometimes.

I didn't feel that with XIV. There is a bugged feeling about some of the aggro, especially with shit like SEA HARES spewing shit all over the place as they scuttle and slither towards you. Mobs use so many TP attacks in this game that it feels unbelievable as well. Foolishly trying to run away from deer and you get hoof-kicked 30 times in the course of 10 feet.

Who knows how XI felt during its early period, though. All that I do know is that I hate -this- early period, and its just best to wait until shit feels right before trying to force myself to play.

Oh they were predictable, but I always loved how they were chasing you in 11. Other mmo always make them slow, clumsy and give them really short attention span.

And yeah, I loved the sound/sight aggro in 11. It was nice to ninja your way through zone like Riverne and such. When I moved to WoW, it was probably the thing that bugged me the most...the way monsters aggro is just dull.

People training Megalocrabs back to that Gridania stone (forget the name) gave me that warm feeling, even though they don't aggro other players.

People on a section about XIV, talking about hating XIV and it lacking something, and then talking amongst themselves about something they liked from XI that XIV doesn't have. Completely out of scope to assume what's discussed in this section has any relation to XIV whatsoever, I know.
