Only now just found out about the second thread. So it definitely seems to be more than one guy. (Though I guess I already knew that, what are the chances of him getting no hooks)
I admit I have to take things second hand (because I can't read japanese), but my friend was talking to me about it (he's fluent in jp and english), and he was talking about them all loving it and about how they keep growing. I guess it started just on blackrock but there are some on proudmoore now too. I trust him![]()
I also admit I never go back to games once I'm through with them. I played Aion since Beta until this past June--have never gone back even though I hear lots has changed. Same for FFXI. After the bans, never bothered to go back and start fresh.
I can see the appeal of both old and new games, especially for hardcore players. Everyone wants to achieve those "server/world firsts" in new games and get themselves on a map in an environment where everyone starts at the same time. Older games appeal to the explorers, or those that want to know what all the hub-bub is about. I almost gave WoW a shot for this reason, but Aion was more appealing at the time and I knew people starting on Lumiel server so the choice was easy. These are only two reasons for trying a game from either camp. I'm sure others can think of plenty more.
Sure is dead game in here.
Did the second free month end at the beginning of November?
Two months from when the game launched is the end of November or later.... not the beginning.
Holy shit lol.
Oh, my bad, it's safe face because your joke wasn't funny.
Genius joke that no one aside from you were able to comprehend.
Guess people don't understand that delivery is important, eh?
I didn't exactly chuckle, and it's no genius joke, that's for sure. Anyway back to flaming...
Why the fuck are there any avoidable TP attacks at all? Kinda defeats the reason the mob is using it. If this is some method of SE wanting players to use positioning to their advantage then it's quite laughable imo. I also don't think combat, which should be fairly fluid, should be interrupted by having to run away from the mob just to then back towards it. Horrible design mechanic.
Funny thing about avoiding TP attacks is that you have to avoid them ahead of them. I've never avoided a WS as it was charging and I starting moving away. I always have to be at the side or back when the WS starts to avoid it.
Avoiding WS itself isn't bad, but being locked into animations means that the whole process is about as fluid as a hard piece of shit. Otherwise, I like the idea, it's just poorly executed (a theme no doubt).
http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/1...-will-save-us/Square Enix profits have plunged and its stock price is at rock bottom – fortunately CEO Yoichi Wada has a plan to reverse this, including a dramatic increase in the company’s reliance on micro-transactions and item charging in its games.
He enthuses about item charges in an address to investors, the same one where he revealed the company would be scrambling to regain lost trust:
“I get the impression that ‘Dragon Quest’ type users and ‘item charge’ type users have quite different feelings [about a business model based on charging for items]. With the likes of Facebook, you can easily introduce friends and things spread quickly, so I feel it’s well suited to item charges, with the game being free.”
He went on to suggest the proportion of revenues accounted for by item charges will be increased from 30% to 40%.
Just whether item charging will make its way into some of Square Enix’s traditional franchises (presumably what is meant by his “Dragon Quest” reference) seems difficult to predict, although even Wada seems cautious if his comments above are any guide.
However, Final Fantasy XIV in particular was designed from the outset to appeal to casual gamers, so a free version with charges for items, skills and other content does not seem entirely outside the realms of possibility.
Even is FFXIV ends up being a F2P MMORPG, if the purchable items are something like FFXI's Mog Satchel (read: practically required once you reach the endgame) it doesn't change anything.
Instead of a monthly fee they add a huge list of good buyable features, FFXIV remains a bad game and SE makes money off players.
They really should stop putting the word "casual" on their press releases, since it's clear they have no clue what a casual player is.However, Final Fantasy XIV in particular was designed from the outset to appeal to casual gamers
I wish Sankaku Complex would stop existing. Wada was specifically mentioning their recently-introduced Facebook app as an example of what he meant by 'item charge,' not promising or even suggesting that FFXIV would change to a F2P model. An official announcement of that flavor would do nothing but encourage players to unsub and wait till it's free. If a cash shop is coming, it won't come before the PS3 launch, and even then it'll be something like a mog house you can dress up or a pet baby chocobo or something along those lines. "Airship model = 500 Crysta, buy now for 20% discount, etc."
