Outsider can spot things that are wrong more easily than someone on the inside. Especially when these people have already thought million things that can go wrong, when they happen to miss something I can point it out for them.

I'm honestly curious, what do you do professionally right now? I'm guessing by your over abundance of hands on expertise you run your own video game firm and are the lead game designer and programmer within the company.

There are so many better options for even FTP that i think SE are kinda stuck in the middle. Not worth a monthly fee and not fun enough to be FTP.

I feel obliged to point out that you insult people regularly as well, both inside arguments and with simple sarcasm posts. You may be more subtle about it sometimes, or vague, but it's not really difficult to spot. I've generally agreed with Domon throughout this entire argument of yours, but I've got to say that shifting to try arguing this isn't any more constructive than those insults and is in fact hypocritical.

To be fair, there's a reason you don't see many MMOs on consoles. And it has a lot to do with the controls fucking sucking.

Optimizing your MMO for a gamepad is like trying to clean the bathroom floor with a toothbrush. Sure you can get the job done, but it's not the best way to do it at all. The KB+Mouse allows for a massive amount of customization. Any company who ignores the value of that (or even custom-made KB or gamepad like the G13) are just wrong.

However, the FF series is a console-based franchise and they want to cater to those individuals. Personally I think it's incredibly fucking misguided to limit your game's development to what the current generation of console can do (which is now 5 years deep in production). We heard PS2 limitations, and now we're already starting to hear the PS3 limitation crap too, just worded differently. Point blank, a FF MMO will never get a massive amount of subs because their title is too niche and they spend a lot of time tied down to nostalgic ideas.

I wasn't speaking generally. You guys really went crazy with it. Why do people say gamepad(PS3 controller) works better than mouse and keyboard with the FFXIV UI?

Anyone who says that probably hasn't given the kb a good testing. However for stuff like crafting or travelling, the pad makes it simple. In combat, idk. I'm a pad user and all I can really say is that pressing esc or enter key that many times would get old fast. I may try kb again tomorrow, ppl on ts have been talking it up here and there lately. I think both configs have their valid uses.

As for the UI being designed for pad, no idea. SE has certainly implied that but I don't see it. On pad you can't even access the bottom-right widgets so fail there. You also can't move anything around either. More fail. Definitely not designed for a pad.

I think the UI works better with keyboard only. If you touch the mouse, shit starts getting terrible really fast. I basically do everything with the keyboard now except drag widgets now.

This is the only point I'm going to disagree with you on. We may be hearing PS3 limitations to some extent, and may hear it still for a while (to some extent), but I think the fact that they're now building an entire UI for the mouse+keyboard means that they'll break away from the PS3 limitations eventually and progress the game on the PC. They'll probably want to try to maintain some kind of alternative, even if it's not as good, and try to keep the playing field even for at least the first few years, but I would be surprised if they restrict the game to a point where they refuse to do anything that the PS3 limits beyond the first few years/first couple expansions. I think after they start approaching the 4~5 year anniversary, that they'll be more willing to break away and release things that will be available on the PC that either aren't the same or aren't available on the PS3 version.

Of course, I could easily be wrong on that, but even though a lot of this is damage control and them trying to play catch up to all the bad feedback, I don't think they're going to completely keep their heads in the sand this time.
