So, are you guys having fun with this miracle patch or the game is just less painful?

More needs to be done. Good start, tho.
Well it sounds like one hell of a "first real patch" just based on the notes themselves. I'm still not budging until PS3 launch, but hey, at least I know I'll be getting my money's worth when I finally decide to plunk it down.
I just hope they fix the "lifeless" state of the cities before I go back, and I don't mean simply populating them with more PCs running around, doing shit. The NPCs in this game are as stiff as when EQ first came out. There needs to be more "fluff" (sorry Hyan!) to give the world a sense of life outside of quests >> reward >> repeat. but I totally understand that priorities demand that the big shit get fixed first, and kudos to them for working on it.
It really needs standard-issue one-time-only quests with cutscenes/story/dialog/small rewards/etc. That's one thing I have been quite disappointed by the lack of. I sure hope they have plans on doing something like that.
What they could do is just unlock the current AF-style quests for everyone to do.
I think it's a good concept but they started it a bit too early. It'd work better once there is a healthy foundation of normal quests to do, or at least some quests below rank 10 so you wouldn't have to level your classes to 20 to unlock them.
Along this change they could also separate the quest starting ranks to every rank instead of every 4-8 ranks. Thus you'd have something to do for every rank.
There'd still be some prerequisites for some quests though, but that's not a big deal for now imo.
I dunno if they'd have to adjust the rewards a bit since you could do all the quests, but that'd be reasonable too.
Leave it to S-E to add more mobs and place the in unavailable places? :D

I hate it when leve chests spawn on cliffs like that.
Sooooo.... when's 15 coming out?
They can try to achieve it, and they can try for all I care- but realistically they are never going to be equal. You thinking this could be possible is naive. Maybe they can bridge the gap a bit, but even then most people will do what is the most effective.
I also don't think separating the playerbase is that good of a move, especially when both systems are quite group-oriented. It's not like everyone can do whatever they want at anytime- you really need other people to do this effectively.
I finally patched and logged in. The game runs much much smoother and the new changes with the chat windows, CTRL + R and equipment menus are a lot better. I can only hope the new UI and all brings even better changes with drag and drop etc. It seems the game is kind of empty though, which kind of sucks. I don't know how to search the server player count but last night, I played for about 2 hours and maybe saw 4 people total that were playing. I'm in the lower level areas but it seemed very empty. Hopefully the patches bring people back! I need a linkshell!![]()
How long did it take you to patch, and did you use torrents or the official patcher?
I just used the official patcher. I think in total, maybe 15 minutes top to bottom. I've actually never had an issue with the official patcher since the official retail launch date.
Tried it tonight; got a good amount of XP which was nice, but ran into an old friend from FFXI randomly which made it a very, very good night. Just knowing that some of my old XI friends are playing gives me more incentive to pick it up again than any content patch SE could roll out.
leves suck, game sucks. what the hell SE? I wanted to hit 50 in a reasonable amount of time... 5 levels a week seems impossible at this point given all the preparation and shit.
Spent my first night ingame post-patch and I was nicely surprised. SP flow at lower levels (I'm rank17) feels much, much better and I was able to easily reach rank18 with just a few leves and a behest battle. Didnt feel like the mountain grind it was before.
Also, more monsters and fixed SP made me actually want to kill stuff here and there.
Last comment on Behest : it has so much potential. Did the Skull Valley one together with a Marauder and it was nice, flowing exp. I love how it's much more predictable than Campaign and I see this having quite an impact on higher ranks, like 18 people alliances to repel the beastmen.
Still trolling I see. Can't say I'm suprised. Cata comes out tomorrow, isn't it about time you hit the WoW boards?
Also in other news:
One of the biggest anti 14 instigators on this board has secretely been having a love affair with the game this whole time. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
Yeah, and why exactly is that wrong if it's the way i've played all othrr MMOs?
Oh, that's right, SE decided to dictate how fast I can do anything and recently battle progression was turned down to "fucking slow". And if I figure out how to beat the system, it won't matter because all my hard work will be rewarded with fatigue.
Well, hopefully when they release "party mobs" that they talked about they will have better SP than the mobs currently out. I think that these new mobs may be in groups like leve monsters often are, but hopefully they give a nice bonus to help us rank up on, because Copperbell Mines is getting pretty old.
I lol'd. MOAR DOTS!!!!
^ Pretty sure party mobs have been in the game since release no? The mobs in groups that were causing all the "con" problems?
Haven't played the game much or followed the lodestone in the past couple weeks. So if there's new types of "party mobs" /ignore
