32" Bravia as PC Monitor + HDTV

So I just bought a 32" Sony Bravia to use for my gaming systems as well as my PC.

I have my PC connected via HDMI out (from my gfx card) to my Bravia. What the fuck? It looks terrible, fonts from almost all programs are splochy, not clear quality. Icons/task bar are poor quality. I've tinkered around with almost all the settings in CCC & Windows CP/Display Options, nothing has seemed to make any difference. Starcraft II when played in full screen looks amazing, it's just normal browsing that looks horrible.

Is it supposed to look like this because it's in such a high resolution? Is it my graphics card? Should I use VGA/DVI cables over HDMI?

Any advice is welcome, I've never used an HDTV as a monitor before.

If you have it on the correct resolution then it's chroma subsampling most likely. Most TVs, even if you give them full color resolution, won't use it, and instead give you smudged/bleeding colors. I suggest sitting further away.

Yes I switched my resolution to the peak 1920x1080 and even if you sit farther away it's still poor quality.

There's definitely something wrong w/ the settings. My friend has a Bravia too and that's how I set the system up (+HDMI). I didn't do anything really, just plug in the HDMI to your vid card and it does everything automatically. Did you install the extra crap that comes w/ your vid's drivers that kinda gives you total control of the card?

I have a bravia 46" connected to my pc and works fine. Even though you are outputting 1080p, is the tv displaying 1080p or is it in 720 or 480 mode? Something just needs some adjusting. What model is it?

Yes, I have the CCC software from ATI on my computer that has full control over the graphics card.

I also have a 32" Bravia and it's not native 1080p (even though it says it is when I have the PS3 going, I know it's really 1080i or 720p). It still looks perfectly fine to me though. I'm no expert but that could be the problem.

Edit: BTW do you have -any- idea how to get rid of that annoying power-on splash screen?

turn your tv to black and white and see if it still looks gross.
