The fairtax has a pre-bate Cadsuane, differentiating itself from other sales taxes and making it not regressive.

And to your last point, I think everyone does, but life isn't fair and the govt. can't make it fair.

It can and it should make it as fair as we can possibly make it. We don't live in the jungle and there is no need to imitate it.

If it only taxes consumption spending, then it is regressive by simple virtue of the fact that the poor spend most or all of their money on consumption, where the rich spend a fraction and save/lend/invest the rest. Rebates change that fact for the impoverished but I don't see how the middle class doesn't end up burdened with most of the state's taxes with a fair tax.

Politics shouldn't be moored in defeatism. In biblical times all money lending was sinful because people had similar ideas about usury. They're still being proven right in current times, but it's a good thing we have a financial economy all the same.

Also, why replace a progressive tax system on income for a fairtax? What's the problem that it's supposed to replace?

The idea that it's always better for the economy to tax households than it is to tax firms. Tax labour, not capital.

I don't understand. Is it the same argument that if you tax companies then people lose their jobs?

Aside from that, why can't you have both a tax on consumption and a tax on income? I can see that a tax on consumption might bring in resources from the illicit economy. In fact, don't states already tax consumption?

Sort of. Remember Plow's apologetics about rich people and entrepreneurship. Some other people itt have made this sort of argument as well ("I don't know anyone who doesn't work for a rich person!").

Well states have sales taxes don't they? So yeah. The idea of a fairtax is that we should only have this one universal sales tax though. ie. We shouldn't tax iron ore at all, but should we tax the price of cars as they're being sold. ie. We shouldn't tax capital gains at all, even though there are people who make and spend nearly all of their money this way.

If anyone had the ability to make everything fair, they would not be human. It's funny that you have more faith in the people of politics than you have in Jesus.

If you want as fair as possible, then have people responsible for their own actions and their own paychecks. Yea, crap happens to people. It happens to everyone. If someone I know is down on their luck, the church steps up and helps out. When someone else is down, that first person that was down, joins in with the church and repays in money, work, or whatever else.

Jesus preached on giving, but he never once made it a requirement. He told the churches to never have a "membership fee" or anything like it. When giving is not required, there is always more giving. This is why more tax hating conservatives give more on average per house hold than an average liberal family.

This is one of my fears I have with people being anti-religion. Not only does it have a indirect effect of our right to worship, it does directly effect our general economic well being. People when truely in need are depending on the state, rather the church they *should* be attending.

I've heard some people say that Jesus was a liberal. That's true, but it's because He had the power of a unlimited supply of what he needed. Just as the fish and bread story. When it came down to the powers of humans (which is none) He was very conservative.

Wut... I really hope you're kidding. From an economic point of view this is beyond wrong. Hell, from a religious point of view this is still terrible.

What a strange world we live in. The combination between laissez faire -fuck you, i got mine- capitalism and and Right Wing -Jesus loves you very much, your genitals belong to God- Christianity is quite a card. Quite possibly the ugliest fusion i've ever seen.

There are some serious issues with people in this thread thinking anyone who is rich is entirely self-interested and intrinsically out to fuck over everyone else. I'm willing to bet all these same people think we should not let the Bush tax cuts expire. Fucking idiots.

Seriously dude just stop fucking posting.

Don't have to look far to prove this either Using your man-crush Donald Trump as in example with his show "The Apprentice". the whole fucking show is centered around Self-interest and intrinsically going out to fuck everyone else in order to win.

I know Plow gets butt hurt when we talk shit about the rich because his family is rich and he is defensive. What's your excuse?
