Two years of maternity leave for every previously-working mother in the country, eh?
That sounds like a wonderful idea. As a man with no intent to procreate, I can't think of a more worthy cause for my tax dollars.
As a non-smoker, I also love the idea of frequent smoke breaks for smokers.
So, all this talk about Health Care being completely unfunded - did the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office make a huge mistake when they said it was budget-positive, or is the opinion columnist pulling shit out of his ass?
Why the rhetorical question?
I have no problem helping those in need. Lost your job in the shitty economy? Probably not your fault; I'll help out. Healthcare for the nation? Sure, we all get sick, and noone gets to pick his genes.
I don't see the point in funding entirely optional choices. Want a kid? Then pay for it.
I honestly don't know. The columnist is pretty specific about why he thinks the "budget neutral" claims are bullshit, and Obama's budget deficit from now until 2020 is projected to be larger than every single other year in American history - the money is going somewhere (or not coming from somewhere). If the new health care bill is a non-factor, what is? I know reduced tax revenue due to tax cuts and the recession is part of it, but are we expecting this recession to last for the next 9 years?
I just don't know where the money is going.
Pretty sure the men get paid paternity leave as well. Hell, even the men here at the law firm I work for get paid paternity leave, and this is in America! And to stay on topic, I don't oppose VAT. For as much as the U.S. promotes global integration they sure are individually selfish. It is funny how that plays out here at home in regards to social services. The U.S. should strive to have standards of living as high as those in Finland and Sweden. Because as it stands now the standard of living in The United States is quite embarrasingly low compared to other developed nations.
I know the OP wasn't retarded enough to post a Charles Krauthammer OPed and pass it off as gospel is he?
This is old and has been debunked several times. Not even Krauthammer is championing this conspiracy theory anymore
ITT: people who know very little about economics posting about economics. myself included of course.
It's not literally a "trick" on the CBO. Everyone knows that when the CBO rates a bill it does so for the first 10 years. That's what it did here, it rated the bill for the first 10 years, and for the first 10 years it won't raise our deficit. This is so b/c spending doesn't kick in 2014. There's only 4 years of spending in the bill for the first 10 years which are offset by other cuts. Therefore, according to the CBO, it is deficit neutral.
But after those 10 years it is not deficit neutral.
Edit: I could be wrong about the deficit neutral thing, but the fundamentally that is what's happening.
oh and swampy since HCR was mentioned remember when you posted the video about Nancy pelosi saying we have to pass the HCR bill before we can know whats in it and giving liberals shit for it?
lol
I can't watch the video, gimme the gist of it.
WALLACE: But forgive me, sir. I mean, isn't the right time to have the adult conversation now before the election when you have this document? Why not make a single proposal to cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid?
BOEHNER: Chris, this is what happens here in Washington. When you start down that path, you just invite all kinds of problems. I know. I've been there. I think we need to do this in a more systemic way and have this conversation first. Let's not get to the potential solutions. Let's make sure Americans understand how big the problem is. Then we can begin to talk about possible solutions and then work ourselves into those solutions that are doable.
In other words lets continue to scare Americans
