    maxing things out

just curious, anyone else ever do this in games? I've never actually finished a max-anything run through, but I've come close in some games. so far I've done:

    - maxed ATK and DEF on Neku in TWEWY. didn't do the other stats or even max ATK and DEF on the other partners, might do some of that someday but some things - like drop rate - just aren't worth it.
    - maxed out stats in FFVI as far as they can go without doing a no-level run.
    - hit 9999 in Disgaea, didn't max out transmogrifications though. I figure if I can beat Uber Prinny Baal, I've gone far enough (and I did).

think I'll do a max stat run on FFVIII some day since the way enemies level with you combined with the ease of getting awesome abilities from cards means the game is one of the best around to play that way.

also got really far in FFXIII but put it down for a while after maxing out Crystarium on all characters and maxing out several (but not all) ultimate weapons. didn't get all inventory, might do that someday.

anyone else ever nerd out on their games like this? I suppose most people with platinum trophies have done this with one game or another.

I typically don't because the amount of time to max out characters in most games is absurb, and that they either lack the content to justify it, or an easy means of doing so without some sort of guide handy to fully understand the game's growth system.

Only game I probably bothered trying to min-max was FF6 Advance since I knew the game very well from my SNES days. Got everyone (except Gogo/Umaru) to 9999hp/999mp, and a Speed stat as high as possible (via the Cactuar esper new to that release) to make that ATB fill up stupidly fast.

I was fucking laughing when I hit the Dragon's Den after hours of grinding, thinking I was going to need it, but nope....I just obliterated the place.

I try to do it for some games. I can't really think of one that I've completed in the past, but upon downloading FF8, I started to aim for it with Devour with stat+. I haven't finished Vagrant Story, but isn't it supposed to be the pinnacle of maxing out stats? I forget where I heard it.

I always either max something out, or do "one of everything" or something like that. For most RPGs I'll do something like, get every skill or get 1 of every weapons, but most of the time I won't bother leveling to max after that. Usually I'll just pick one or two things about a game that I think would be most satisfying to max out/acquire and do that, that way I get my fix without really wearing my patience thin.

Yet somehow I put 220+ hours in KH:BBS, Oblivion, Rogue Galaxy, FF12, and probably Last Remnant sooo...

Just depends, depending on the game I'll max everything out or try to get close or very high stats at least.

    TWEWY

    BbS
    All Disgaes
    RoF
    Tales Series
    BD
    Bayonetta counts?
    DMC counts too?
I count getting all/maxing all weapons part of it as well.

Man, a bunch of stuff, I'm not even gonna list it all, but those are a few.

Once I beat a game I'm generally done with it unless it's exceptional. I'll still 100% games now and then if they're good but I don't tend to do over the top shit like maxing anything out anymore, although I used to when I was younger. If something like an RPG has missables and I happen to miss them I won't fuss over it. Only recent exception I can think of is Tales of Vesperia but that can fit in to the exceptional category.
