2 new Phantasy Star games: Phantasy Star: Eternal Planets/Eternal Hunters

In one of our Japanese trademark hunts we found Sega filed
trademarks for Phantasy Star: Eternal Planets and Phantasy Star:
Eternal Hunters. Both were registered for use with video games.
The title makes it sounds like these are going to be companion
games like Pokemon: (insert color) / (insert contrasting color), but
probably without Rappys to catch.

This could very well just be an undecided title, not "companion" games. We have no idea what they'll do with these title(s). I'm gonna go against the grain and say I hope it isn't a turn based RPG though. If it is they need to have something much more interesting than the old system, this ain't 1993 anymore.

What do you mean? They keep remaking all the old classic rpgs or even developing new ones and they're always put out for like the DS or PSP. Maybe that's ok for kids but as a grown man I don't want to sit hunched over my tiny DS for hours at a time just to play these games. They're really doing rpg fans a big disservice by continually developing rpgs for handhelds rather than consoles. I don't care if the game looks like it belongs on the SNES or something, I'd still like to play it on my tv.

Way to read too much into it I guess. My statement had nothing to do with whether it was socially acceptable for grown men to play handhelds. My neck actually gets stiff if I sit and look down at this tiny handheld screen for hours on end. If people like handhelds, more power to them. I just wish they'd at least consider porting all these rpgs over to a console for those of us that don't.

No problems playing my PSP nor DS games on my monitor as big as I please. You can hook a PSP up to a TV too if that floats your boat.

Oh don't get me wrong, I don't want these to be "classic turn based RPGs". PS4 came out what, 20 years ago? Maybe a bit less? There's no way they would live up to the insane standards the "classic" PS fans have.

On the other hand, I do love seeing people whine on POSW so maybe it would be good :3

Oh yeah, I'm not asking for an offline PSO. But if they want to go with turn based gameplay they sure as hell better back it up with some interesting systems and not just rehash PS4. I can go back and play Final Fantasy 7 any day (despite how easy it is) thanks to the materia system just making gameplay actually interesting. Same with Grandia 2's battle system just being downright fun to play even though it's turnbased. If I tried to play any of the original Phantasy Star games nowadays I wouldn't make it too far before getting bored. Then again I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who just want yet another standard bare bones turn based RPG rather than something new.

Exactly. For the record, I've never played the original PS save for maybe 10 minutes of each. PSO for GC was my first taste of the series, so I tried them to see what the hub bub was, but was incredibly bored. I'm sure they were great games for their time, but that is the key. I find PS fans often set themselves up for huge disappointments (See PSU, PS0 too even) though, so I am naturally pessimistic regarding this whole thing.
