DMC (Devil May Cry Reboot)

Have $30 down on the game from Ass Creed III trade-in and I've had a serious itch for some hack-and-slash. Hopefully the gameplay can make up for god-awful, juvenile dialogue. Even if nothing about the game plays like a DMC it will at least feel like a GoW hybrid. Gonna pick it up after class.

There's too much bias in here to get a good idea if the game is worth getting or not, if you don't believe the overwhelmingly positive reviews of the game every one thought would tank.

Maybe red box will have a copy and I can just play for myself.

I don't think any of them played DMC3 or DMC4 Dante for that matter.

The gametrailers review seemed pretty fair and unbiased, and they gave the game an 8.5 which mirror's it's metacritic score. I was never a huge DMC fan but I did enjoy DMC4 and I'm a Dante main in UMVC3. I like his original character design and the new version obviously isn't as alpha, but I think new Dante would have been a decent enough character had he been the star of his own standalone game.

People were crying the same way about Raiden in Sons of Liberty, but in the end the game was good and sold a shit ton of copies and became a land mark game. This new DmC looks like it's pushing the genre forward in terms of accessibility (which isn't a fucking bad thing if depth is still there). People just need to accept the design choice for what it is. It certainly isn't better, but that doesn't mean the game doesn't look dope in it's own way.

The biggest kneejerk reactions were based on cosmetic changes which I personally couldn't give a shit about. They changed the way Dante looks and acts? Whatever. Changed the world/mythos completely? Whatever. I actually wanted a DMC that had a decent story and engrossing characters. So far all that's been delivered are amazing environments and an interesting world (physically, the way it moves etc).

Capcom on the other hand have dumbed down the combat (which is their MO these days) to make it easier to access. That's fine, but what most DMC fans are worried about is just game play. Fast action, complex moves and countless possibilities. DMC loses precision for accessibility, which is always better for people who aren't as good or interested in action games.

Overall, I think this game will do well but only because of the negative attention has lowered expectations greatly. I don't want to give Capcom credit for that because they're still idiots overall. I will play this game eventually and give a better rundown on it.

I tend to look at overall critic and user reviews as more of a suggestion than anything else. The user side not doing so well though.

Yeah, he played 1... didn't touch 2, played 'some' of 3 but didn't get into it. (enough to see what it is about, he says... aka like 20min probably)

Liking how enemies on higher difficulty have new moves to use.
Still hate all the grapple stuff. Didn't like it much in 4, and this game took it to the next level
Still don't understand why there is no lockon.
Writing still looked pretty bad.
