The said thing is, if the main character was still the usual Dante, 99% of these negative comments would turn into something like "OMG RELEASE THIS GAME ALREADY!" fest.

Pretty sure DMC2 showed people don't care if Dante is the main character, if the game sucks people will say so. That gameplay really didn't look fast at all, actually looked slower to me compared to DMC4. I really don't know why they outsourced this game still, they obviously have the capacity to make a good DMC game. DMC4 wasn't as well liked but it was still a pretty good game. So now we have a retarded looked main character AND bad gameplay. Good going Capcom. Then of course they'll prolly use this as an excuse to not make another DMC game since the last one didn't do well, like Breath of Fire.

That combat just looked really slow, and clumsy to me. Probably a pass and rebuy the DMC4 disc that I lost.

Also I haven't played Bayonetta, should I get that or DMC4?

DMC4 is good, but Bayonetta is just leagues better, definitely get that first.

It didn't, but Dante didn't become truely badass until DMC3 in terms of witty comments and his lines. DMC1 was OK but a little dull, DMC2 Dante I believe had minimal lines or it wasn't funny. DMC3 upped it followed by DMC4 sealing it; in my opinion that's how it worked for me.

The other character sucked, the story sucked, the customization sucked and the gameplay sucked. The inclusion of Dante was the only reason people even bought it. His personality was a trainwreck in that game but he still had his cool moments.

This is coming off the back of DMC1 though, people expected greatness and didn't get it. Hype was high because DMC1 was fantastic and this was a sequel to that.

Basically at that point, we didn't know any better. There was no DMC3 to light the path and show us how action games are supposed to be. DMC3 set the standard, and even DMC4 failed to meet it. So now we have DMC5, and it's clear that Capcom don't know what the fuck they're doing anymore based on this train wreck.

DMC is not all about Dante, the side characters, the story, the setting, the atmosphere or whatever other shit you want to throw down. It's all about the game play, if the game plays well - if it plays like a DMC should - then no one really cares about the rest.

However, NTs track record with action games is piss-poor, I'd rather shoot myself in the foot than play one of their games again.

no DMC game will ever be better than DMC3. I don't think any game of the same genre will imo. Not that other games still can't be great.
and yeah, I'm going to have to echo the those that said the combat in this game looks way too slow and clunky.

Platinum “ready” to develop DmC Devil May Cry

Since its announcement, there has been a bit of controversy surrounding the Ninja Theory-developed DmC Devil May Cry. Fans worry over the new developer, the new look, and new direction the game looks to be taking.

Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya, now of Platinum Games, expressed his dislike of the new Dante in the past. Questioned on Twitter recently, he said his company would take up the job, if Capcom gave it to them.

“Ask Capcom,” he replied to a fan asking Kamiya-san to “come back and fix this problem.”

Asked if Platinum would be on board for developing the game if Capcom offered, he said: “Sure. We’re ready.”

The latest media for DmC Devil May Cry was released during E3.
