    Kindle

    Greetings,

I do a lot of reading and have been thinking about getting a kindle, just wondering if anyone here has one and what their opinion was on it. Also, one thing I was 'warned' about was that all bookes DLed are tied to that kindle, so say if in 2 years I got a new one I would have to pay for the books I have all over again (no transfer). However the site states that:

"Books you purchase from the Kindle Store are automatically backed up online in your Kindle library on Amazon. Re-download books wirelessly for free, anytime."

I take that as you can re-DL them at any time, reguardless of your current kindle system. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks for any input

Yes, you can re-download them. You link the new Kindle to your Amazon account, which is fairly simple on its own, and then you view a list of books you've already purchased, then click a button to download them again. There are no fees.

I recently did this for a roommate's grandfather who obtained a brand new Kindle as a gift. He used to have the original model. I re-downloaded literally dozens of books, if not a couple hundred, and he was never charged a dime.

If there are any restrictions specific to certain books and/or publishers, that's different. I didn't encounter any, but I don't know if such things exist.
