I have signed copies of most of the Ender books, but I agree that really the only true book would be Ender's Game, though I did enjoy Ender's Shadow.

To contribute on the whole classic scifi (even though you don't want it), if you never got around to reading I, Robot then I'd suggest that now's the time to do it. (b'')b

I find too many people know of it, but never ended up picking it up for whatever reason.

Haruki Murakami - Kafka on the Shore
This is a partly second hand reccomenation though. I only read Sputnik Sweethearts, and while it was definitely readable I didn't find it breath taking. I've only heard good stuff about the Kafka one though.

Oh and Numbers, I think you're reading 1984 wrong. Essentially, the book cannot take off and develop the way you expect it to, it's build around that stagnating, unchangable misery.

Oh and Numbers, I think you're reading 1984 wrong. Essentially, the book cannot take off and develop the way you expect it to, it's build around that stagnating, unchangable misery.

Anyway, an attempt to word that better - it's like a circle that can't be broken, no matter how much they try. It's what's scary about the book in a way. If it ended before them returning to the same state of things, it wouldn't have had the same effect. I need coffee. =/

1984 was a shitty book.

I read the whole thing like it was candy, I couldnt put it down, but it read like it was constantly on the climactic rise about to get somewhere where there was actually going to be something worth reading but never was.

1984 was the beginning of a good book. There was no culmination or climax. You cant just leave off an ending to a book.

I thought the ending to 1984 was pretty brilliant myself, it instantly causes you to snap back and reanalyze the whole story because if the events in the Ministry teach you anything, it's that not everything is what it seems.
