REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Jul 20, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Gaming
visionary American McGee returns to Wonderland as Electronic
Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) and Spicy Horse Games announce Alice:
Madness Returns(TM), the dark and deranged sequel to the year
2000 PC hit, American McGee's Alice(TM). Designed with the same
dark style of the original, but now featuring entirely new visuals,
story and game design, Alice: Madness Returns is a fun and
addictive action adventure set to release on PC, the PlayStation
(R)3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360(R) video
game and entertainment system. The game follows Alice on a
journey through a wildly corrupted and shattered Wonderland to
uncover the truth behind her haunted past and tortured psyche. In
this journey, players will romp through highly-detailed elaborate
worlds, encounter a cast of off-beat characters and engage in epic
battles with deadly weapons and sinister villains.

"Alice is a classic fiction, infinitely rich with memorable characters,
places and experiences. Our approach to Alice: Madness Returns
takes this colorful world and reinvents it with psychotic
personalities and pervasive insanity," said American McGee, Spicy
Horse Games Co-Founder and Senior Creative Director. "We can't
wait to share our vision with Alice in Wonderland fans and gamers
    around the world."

Alice: Madness Returns takes place 10 years after the conclusion
of the original game, with Alice struggling to recover from the
emotional trauma of losing her entire family in a fatal fire. After
spending a decade institutionalized in an insane asylum, she is finally
released to the care of a psychiatrist who just may be able to help
her conquer the nightmarish hallucinations that still haunt her. Alice
embarks on a mission to root out the true cause of her family's
mysterious death, jumping from a gloomy and stark London to a
    rich and provocative Wonderland.

"In 2000, we launched a cult hit on the PC with American McGee's
Alice. Ten years later, I'm pleased to announce American is back on
board leading the top-rate talent at Spicy Horse Games to create
this sequel," said David DeMartini, Senior Vice President and General
Manager of EA Partners. "The Alice in Wonderland fiction continues
to be a fan favorite all over the world. We can't wait for them to
experience the next chapter with Alice: Madness Returns."

Alice: Madness Returns will be available in 2011 for the PC,
    PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Heard the first one was really good. I tried to grab it on Steam about a month ago (when I heard about the sequel), but they didn't have it. Any advice on where to look that doesn't involve needing to order a physical disk cause I'm lazy?

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

EA isn't too stingy with their bonuses, so I think theres a good chance the original will come included with the sequel (maybe even in HD!).

Last I recall, you could find a working torrent for it pretty easy. I remember grabbing one about 2 years ago.

I loved the original, definitely worth playing, imo, if you can find a copy.

It'd be nice if EA released a remake/port on XBLA. I think some guys made a support forum on EA site trying to get them to actually release it on XBLA or something. Would be cool if they actually did, would love to replay this game since it's been so long ago

Given the original is a decade old, it'd be a kinda cool of them to port it into the pack for those not familiar with the original, which there were likely lots since it was PC-exclusive back in the day.
(not like we've seen that situation happen already happen with Call of Duty Classic, or Medal of Honor for PS3 getting MoH:Frontline, same for the more-recent Dead Space Extraction as well)

Game looks visually appealing, hope to see some gameplay videos in the following months.

been waiting for this ever since I heard about it a while back. good to see the project is still on, I had begun to wonder if it was going the way of Duke Nukem Forever. definitely excited, I loved the first Alice far more than I should have. I've heard people knock the gameplay and I agree that it's not the best ever, but you absolutely cannot beat the atmosphere.

Closest thing I could find, I believe all the real gameplay vids from Comic Con were removed by EA

All the gameplay vids that were up were taken down by EA, most came from Comic Con AFAIK

Sorry, I meant the original game from about 8ish years ago. Every YouTube vid I find has someone talking all the damn time.

Forgot to say that the gameplay in Alice isn't its strongpoint, but it's like it's bad either. Just don't expect anything super fantastic is all. The Story/Art/Visuals/Atmosphere is where Alice shines, and look forward to this in the sequel. The gameplay will probably be a bit better in the sequel as well.

I worked at EA when this game came out and we were all ecstatic about it. It was supposed to come out on XBox and PS2 but at that time EA was still considering themselves family friendly and canned it. Reason why deathmatch multiplayer never got implemented in Clive Barkers Undying. EA did a good job of marketing Alice though, but unfortunately it just did not sell well despite all the good reviews it got. I still have my alice figure sitting next to my tv.

"We drew inspiration for combat from Zelda, but not the world layout,” explains McGee. “On the contrary, Alice is a fairly linear, narrative-driven experience – a setup we think maximises the dramatic power of the story we’re telling. Regardless, there is a tremendous amount of variety as you move through the world – no two domains are alike – and each domain brings with it a unique set of characters and gameplay mechanics. We even have what we’re calling “domain-specific game mechanics” – areas where expectations about the game’s presentations are completely twisted. Variety is really at the core of the Madness Returns experience.”
    Sounds boring.
