HOLY, I CAN'T READ.
My calculations for Ascetic's Fury damage have repeatedly been significantly lower than actual results reported by others. What am I missing?
I'm trying to correlate what I'm calculating vs Cream Soda's reported numbers. He said 1.8k-2k with only RR atma (doesn't have the other high-end atmas yet).
Ascetic's Fury - 50% Str, 50% vit.
Going to assume +20 to all stats from cruor buffs, +10 str from Sellsword atma, +50 dex from RR atma. Bison Steak for food.
Hume mnk/nin should have base str/dex/vit of roughly 84/80/80 (still don't have data for new formulas, so just a rough guess).
Presumed WS gear set:
Fire Taipan +1 // Tantra Tathlum
MKE/Gorget/Brutal/Aesir
Osode/BKote/Rajas/Spiral
Forager/Warwolf/Usu/Usu
+49 str, +25 dex, +24 vit in gear
Total:
Str: 168
Dex: 175
Vit: 124
WSC: 168*50% + 124*50% = 146 * 0.85 = 124
Base damage: 41 (skill) + 26 (weapon) + 11 (fStr) + 124 (WSC) = 202
fTP = 1.0 + 0.1 = 1.1 on first hit, 1.0 on second. Total = 2.1
Assuming capped attack, no level correction, ignoring DA, plus the 30% damage bonus on crits:
No crits: 202 * 2.1 * 2.0 = 848.4
First hit crit: 202 * 1.1 * 3.0 * 1.3 + 202 * 1.0 * 2.0 = 1,270.58
Second hit crit: 202 * 1.1 * 2.0 + 202 * 1.0 * 3.0 * 1.3 = 1,232.2
Both crits: 202 * 2.1 * 3.0 * 1.3 = 1,654.38
With an overall crit rate of ~65% (20% from capped dex, 10% from WS base, 30% from atma, 4% from merits, 1% from over-TP), average should be about 1375.
Every additional +10 str or vit (eg: another tier of cruor enhancement) is about +25 damage.
Even the high end with both hits critting is lower than CS's reported numbers, never mind the overall average. So what's not being accounted for?
The only thing I can think of offhand is perhaps the fTP is incorrect and it should be 2.0 instead of 1.0, or perhaps gets a +1.0 boost as part of the atma.
Well, I only did a handful of furies. Got the atma last night and was just soloing some spiders and doing bastion. The numbers I posted came from the spiders. Bastion I was doing 1k-1.3k (if those mobs are any diff idk). Hero and RR, and using a kabob (was just trying to do some bastion for some points for temp items). So no buffs whatsoever, as I was on my own.
As for ws set, was using alkies for hands, rajas/flame (nee to get a spiral still), denali shoes. Rest is correct as is.
-1 for str dex and vit due to my underleveled sub
Moten: I'll give you my setup and numbers so you can compare with Cream's and see if the discrepancy between the two will give you the info you're missing.
1400-2700 on The skeleton NM in abyssea attohwa, 1200-1900 on Whiro. Ebon Hoof / RR atma combo, +30 all stats with the curor buff boost atmas. Hume 85 MNK/NIN using yellow curry.
ws kit for these numbers:
Afflictors/grenade
shura kabuto/peacock amulet/brutal/merman's ear
shura togi/melee gloves/toreador's/rajas/potent belt
shura haidate/fumas(forgot wsboots)
gear is iffy because i was told "hey come RIGHT NOW" so i grabbed things as fast as i could, missed a piece or two.
Are any of the Unkai Seal NMs soloable by a Nin or Sam 85?
What's the general consensus on Group 2 RDM Merits now?
I currently have 5/5 Slow2 and 5/5 Phalanx2. I did Phalanx primarily for Salvage, but now I really only do low-man stuff in Abyssea on RDM (typically MNK, WHM, RDM) and it seems borderline pointless in there.
Dia3? Para2? Mix of both?
I wanna say no... checking misareaux and all those NMs are a pain due to huge aoe spells, or just plain annoying to solo. Attohwa leaves only whiro, and he might be doable by NIN/DNC, but be warned you may take long as hell to kill it due to it having lots of HP. It might not even be worth the effort; if you can find a mage friend to help you burn through those NM duo, I'd rather go that route. I kinda value every min of my time in abyssea, and taking 30-40 min killing first tier NM doesn't sound appealing.
Personal views on it (ie: not general consensus): I've rearranged stuff to be 2 Dia III, 4 Slow II, 4 Para II. Dia III is always useful if there's any melee, and 1 minute duration is really the minimum for general purposes. Slow II and Para II are both quite effective, though there's some argument for favoring 5 Para II and 3 Slow II instead of an even split. I'm also pondering putting 1 point into Blind II now; I figure the extra -10 acc is probably worth more than 1% slow if the tank has any amount of evasion at all (eg: mnk, thf, etc), but not so useful for pld or war tanks.
This.though there's some argument for favoring 5 Para II and 3 Slow II instead of an even split.
You'll never benefit from 1% slow. With saboteur and elegy putting you over the cap, there's no reason not to 5/5 para.
Decided to reactivate my sub to XI but the card I was using to pay is no longer active and none of my current cards are supported by VBV. Any idea if I can bypass VBV by calling SE? If not can someone reccomend a pre-paid card they *know* will work? Thanks in advance :3
You don't need to do the Martello quest...
1: Do the Cura II quest.
2: Do Wayward Wares. (May need to do twice, I forget)...
3: Do Crimson Carpet II resistance OP twice.
That's enough to get you to level 2, at which point you have a lot more quests at your disposal.
If you need MNK, BLU, BRD or PLD seals, just spam Flown the Coop.. it's easy enough and you can max out fame in an hour or two of doing it.

Have never stepped foot inside Abyssea and am pretty out of the loop but looking to come back some time in November. How manageable are the AF3 armor to get to +1/+2 solo/duo? I'd need to basically restart and but since all the new gear is rare/ex and from abyssea, I don't really need to invest much time in making money since I had a little when I quit. I only have RDM80 atm, and 9 other jobs are 75 still. The stats on all of them are great so far but not really sure how realistic obtaining them would be by myself. Anyone have some insight? Linkshells are pretty much out of the question on my server.
