Had been thinking that Kaftan would be good for monk using RR, but how does it stack up outside Abyssea? Also, curious what mix/match build you'd use with just +1s. So many options now that I feel a bit lost on what's ideal.

So... I've been thinking about Abyssea stuff lately. I just wanted to ask questions about what would help out with my situation.

I haven't played much of the Abyssea content 'cause school is getting pretty hectic now, but when I get a bit more free time I would be interested in some progress in Abyssea with my sis. I'm also a bit rusty with the general norms of FFXI, so I'm sorry if I come off as "obvious" or just plain dumb. Any constructive advice is totally appreciated.

    Team:
    Me - SAM RDM DNC
    Sister - SMN WHM

    Priorities:

    - Getting both Lunar Abyssites seems to be the most important to me. 100k cruor one is simple enough, but the NM one from Vision of Abyssea I don't really know how to approach it if I were to try doing it with me and my sis only. Any suggestions?

    - Getting Atmas. Now from the synthetic ones, the Windurst, Aht Urhgan and Shantotto seem to be the useful ones to start off with. Doing Windurstian Missions though... can it be done easily now? I don't wanna lose my OP Warps either.

But for NM Atmas, these seem to be the best ones to me overall:

    Melee-wise: Voracious Violet, Razed Ruin
Mage-wise: Beyond (For Shiva's Heavenly Strike maybe?), Minikin Monstrosity,

Are the any other ones I might be missing that could be really useful that I overlooked?

    - "Passive" abyssites. There's a ton of them, and I'm not sure where to start with this. Any suggestions as to which ones should be prioritized? Heck, maybe I should even do some of these abyssites first before attempted some Atmas?

    - Duo EXP. I'm kind of imagining WHM + DNC actually to be the most effective team... with Haste, Haste Samba, WHM Cures, DNC Cures, Hexa+Evis with Razing Ruins being hacks, etc. WHM + SAM probably seems like the obvious choice, but for some reason I feel like DNC might do a bit better with the help of Atmas and such. Or I'm just crazy, I dunno. Suggestions?

I do have to do some Magian Trials though. A little behind in that regard.

    - And of course, getting gear from Abyssea and Magians. Though I think I'll save that for another day to type up.

If I've forgotten anything, please mention it! Thanks very much.

Your best bet for a second Lunar Abyssite is Cirein-Croin. RDM and SMN should be good for that, depending on how good your kiting skills are, and what your gear looks like. It sounds like you have Atma of Ambition (ASA Atma), so that's good. You should be able to duo Cep-Kamuy with the same strategy (Kiting + DoT/Nuking); he moves faster but has less HP.

As far as Atmas go... A top-end RDM can solo about 1/3 - 1/2 of the Atma-dropping NMs with kite/nuke tactics, but that ignores the ~5% drop rate of Atmas normally without red !!'s from elemental WS's to stagger it, and the fact that any RDM's who have done this are top-notch. You're going to need at least a group of four before you even think about doing any Atma NMs. Sorry :/ I'd suggest forming /shout groups, but from my experience with that, random pick-up people are really, really fucking stupid. See if you can get in with weekly Abyssea runs with a larger group; I know it'll be difficult to manage with your time frame, but if you can, it will make your life infinitely easier with the types of Atma you want.

I would offer a greater breadth of opinions about which NMs you have a chance with and which you don't in general, but my experience with them is limited, so I apologize.

For the Windurst Atma, I can't comment on the difficulty of the missions (but from a Wiki scan through all of them, it looks like you should be able to do all of them if you're 85 and well geared/use some sort of tactics), but you will have to give up OP warps to do the missions (OP warps you've unlocked are nation-specific; that is, if you swap from Bastok to Windurst, you lose all the OP's you got while you were Bastokan, but if you switch back you get all of them back).

For Abyssites, get all the quested ones you can that don't involve fights or gimmicks that require multiple people (e.g. Playing Paparazzi). Most notably, you should try for the Crimson Abyssite of Celerity (La Theine, increases rate/quality of blue chests) - should take fifty quest repetitions to max out the fame you need to do the quest. As far as Abyssite-dropping NMs go, you could probably do a couple of them, but you'd run into the terrible key item drop rate again. If your sister levels RDM up to 85 as well, the amount of NMs you can fight in Abyssea practically triple - skilled 85 RDM duos are a force to be reckoned with.

For most efficient exp/farming duo jobs, that highly depends on what jobs you have the most skill with, what has the most damaging output, etc. I'd suggest SAM and WHM, but Rog would come down on me like a ton of bricks; and I don't know how in shape your Dancer is to consider the DNC and WHM suggestion. Skilled Dancers tear shit up in Abyssea, but skilled dancers are also a rare commodity, and I don't want to make any flagrant assumptions about how good you are with any of your jobs.

I'm also in school right now, so my FFXI time is limited as well. What I've got my schedule down to right now is: Abyssea EXP runs on Saturday night, Abyssea NM farming runs on Tuesday night, and any time I have in between devoted to soloing quests for seals for AF3+1 gear. Takes no more than a small handful of hours out of your week, and accomplishes quite a bit.

But the moral of the story is that if you can get a group for NMs and the like, do so. From my experience, despite how easy the BG'ers make everything in Abyssea sound, they're isolated to a group of players whose baseline of judgment assumes that you have the best equipment and years of soloing/small group experience. I'd say 90% to 95% of the players of FFXI are below the standards assumed in this forum. I know for damned well sure that I am. So, in the long run: try to get a group of friends who you can do events often with; preferably people who you have played with before, so you know that they aren't idiots, and from there develop plans for whatever you need to do. Also: Tagging along with a large group; or even sitting outside and watching a large linkshell group beating NMs you are after is good for learning how the NMs behave and exactly what it takes to beat them down.

so yeah. Hope that helped some :3

I would recommend adding at least one more person to the group so you can kill everything (Or most NMs at least).

    Order of events:
    1. Abyssite of Celerity (BOTH of them)
    2. Lunar Abyssite
    - Zone boss at Abyssea - Mis Coast is a joke
    - Kill the mini-orobon NM using gravity + nuke tactics
    - Kill the frog with a RDM+SMN duo (Use a pet strong to water)
    - Kill the zone boss using gravity + nuke tactics
    3. Atma farming (VV + RR)
    - Farm VV pop in a SMALL group at Highlands (Build Azure + Amber on Emph mobs and build pearl on the mob you intend to kill for boxes) since you can get fresh pins + PDT Rings + Pop items at the same time
    - Get people for these because 1) You need to cover all 13 WSs [They're listed in the atma section of Wiki] 2) Some PUG people are stupid so you need dumbasses to cover for when dumbasses die
    - Use the SAME group to farm RR pop items > Kill NM (Have one person with hate kite the NM and stay farther than 16' from the NM while others do their elemental WS until red !! triggers)
    - Use the same group (Or another) to farm Flayer + Imp + Dvergr NMs for Durinn pop items (Break the alliance into three groups since it's a PUG; one do each NM)
    4. Between doing these (Or after), obtain HP/MP + Stat boost Abyssites

After this, go for Chloris or the La Theine zone boss (Giga) for an additional STR atma. If you choose chloris, do a mini group for gold box/XP farming since you can get pops for Lacovie (Goading belt!) and he's a general bitch. If you do giga, I hear it's easier to kill the mini NMs (Never tried it though since I myself am bound by schoolwork and time restraints).

Edit: I had the chance to rock my atmas recently, and it's fucking Night and Day. Game changer to say the least.

To get the azure abyssite of celerite, you just kill those 2 tonberry mobs and they have a chance of dropping the key item? Also best quests to get fame in those areas? God damn did I miss alot in a year >_>

Just to be clear, only the -puller- will get the abyssite, so unless you're soloing, keep that in mind.

How does one go about bypassing the 3D secure credit card thing? I remember there being a guide for it(because I used it :s), but searching just gave me a clusterfuck of wrong threads.

    If I could have this answered ASAP, that'd be wonderful. Forgot about it until right now, and I'll end up with two banned accounts soon if I don't fix this x.x;

It's probably been asked a million times, but never to be found when I need the answer - what mobs DO NOT give Ruby lights in La Theine? Wikis aren't helpful.

That page doesn't list any of the mobs in La Theine not-giving Ruby lights. I've personally never found one.

Also, does anyone have confirmation that Cocks in Tahrongi give Amber? I went around testing mobs out with my BST after building time in a party one day and the only two things I could get to give me Amber were miniFafs and Turtles. I know I tried cocks at least twice. Tried testing Ephemeral mobs, but Primal Rend healed one of the types and the other didn't give Amber.

Cocks don't, someone probably confused it with attohwa(god knows how many times i've confused the 2 using Horst.. something with my brain, idk). I found that sandworms were the most viable amber mob when I was working on buds, but still nothing great. Turtles tend to 1/8 resist everything but ice, minifafs do similar w/ water and lightning, sandworms w/ wind. Suppose what's best depends what WS you have, but WAR gets aeolian edge and it does pretty well on the worms.

Koki and Leaden have both been perfectly fine for me on turtles, Koki hasn't failed to kill 1 from 7-8% yet.

Also VNM t1s always give all lights (and give pearl every single kill), it's a really nice way to get pearl in any zone that they are accessible, and it's not bad at all in Tahrongi due to the fact most mob types don't give amber. And ya, I've confused Attohwa and Tahrongi before also. :/

Ah yeah, I forgot to mention Sandworms too. I think I tried every monster in zone except Corses and Gully Clionids/Limules.
