    An observation (mob behavior)

    Has anyone else noticed that passive, non-aggro mobs....follow you? I've tested the idea on several mobs (rams in Uldah, monkeys in the woods, etc.) -- they literally follow you, with their head and if you walk in any direction, they stay at your heels.

    They don't aggro, so it's actually sort of creepy as well as annoying since it prevents AoE moves.

    Has anyone else noticed this behavior or have any idea why SE thought it was necessary? The code doesnt program itself, it has to tie into something.

    I'm serious. Test it. Several people I play with have said they've noticed the same mob behavior.

    yes, some mobs follow you, like opos and dodos

    others, like antelope does, will run away from you

    Is there any point or reason behind it? Or just someone at Squares idea of "egh, why not"?

    It's probably just meant to make mob behavior seem more realistic. Like, a monkey would be curious and follow you, but a deer would run away if you got close.

    its just a means of expressing their curiosity in you. You know. Immersion and stuffs.

    I don't think this is possible from a game mechanics point of view. Imagine if you were trying to engage a group of enemies, mobs following you would render all of your AoE attack abilities and spells worthless. Since we know SE intended group vs. group combat to be central to battle in XIV and we know that mobs following you would make group vs. group nearly impossible then we also know that mobs cannot follow you. QED

    Yea, if you get somewhat close to them (basically aggro range) -- they follow you for a while. From what it seems like, they follow you until you run out of aggro range. If you just turn or walk a foot or so, their heads follow your movements.

    Rams and Opo's are the two mobs I've noticed the most doing it.

    Seriously though, you presumably own this game, log in and test it yourself. I'm not making this up, mobs demonstrably behave in this fashion.

    Furthermore, this isn't even new. Lycopodia and Hpemde in FFXI followed you around.

    What the fuck? How is this a QED? Do you even know what that means? I really hope this is sarcastic. Maybe it is, especially since you titled your post "unpossible"

    please, oh wise one, explain to us why some mobs are aggressive, some follow the player around passively, others run away from players like they're hit with a fear-type debuff, and some are completely passive if not for the sake of creating a "realistic" environment

    I think someone is playing the conspiracy card in that it's to make fighting with AoE attacks/spells more difficult. It doesn't take a brain scientist to see the correlation between monkeys following people and deer running away from people.

    You know, I read my own post wrong for a second there, then realized I didn't actually word it wrong. I'm assuming you misread it as well, because I agreed that the mob behavior mechanics were for immersion, and nothing else.
