    FFXI Performance Tweaks

I'm just going to apologize in advanced for asking this. I've read through a few threads but haven't really found any solid information on the subject. My question is this:

Does anyone know of any PC tweaks that will improve FPS in FFXI?

As I said, I've been looking around but haven't really found any solid information. I'm pretty sure my system should be able to handle anything FFXI throws at me, but I seem to be stuck at < 12 FPS in high traffic zones. This is kind of annoying and I'm just trying to find a way to remedy this.

    Thanks.

    MY SPEC:

    OS: Windows 7 64 bit
    CPU: Intel Core i7 960 @3.20 GHz
    RAM: 6.00 GB DDR3
GPU: EVGA Nvidia GTX 480 Superclocked
    MB: ASUS P6X58D Premium

    Stickies. Also, update your drivers.

I currently live on a campus which has a good connection, so I don't think it's that (unless they are doing something to restrict me). I've also got the latest updates for my drivers.

I just logged on a few min. ago, and standing in Port Jeuno with only a few people around (shadows and weather off) resulted in ~10 FPS, not sure why.

Yea, your system should easily handle anything. One I just built I have never seen drop below 28 gps, and it has a lower spec base than what you are running. I would say update the drivers for starters. Also, overall connection speed won't matter if your campus has a tight set of firewalls. From the POL site...

PlayOnline (including all related software such as FINAL FANTASY XI) may use any of the following ports. If you are using a router, please configure it to allow packets to pass through these ports.

+ Port numbers that may be used by the PlayOnline server group:
    -TCP 25, 80, 110, 443 or 50000 - 65535
    -UDP 50000 - 65535

Any idea on the best driver (for FFXI) to use for a NVIDIA GeForce GT 240?

I'm 28-29 FPS every where except crowded areas (like Joachim). One issue I have is I still get random shit like glitchy wyvern wings, some flickering equipment and flashing Bastokan Flags in Bastok Markets and Port Bastok...

There's also an issue where something can be on my screen, but if I rotate the camera slightly, it completely vanishes when it should still be visable (this is mostly stuff like parts of scenery).

Get a new video card. I love Nvidia, always have. But their cards just suck for FFXI. They've promised updated drivers that will work for months now. Nothing fixes the horrible fps in crowded areas or when displaying certain graphics like maws. Even the most current updated drivers still have problems. I took the loss, sold my GTX and got an ATI and I get max fps everywhere. Einherjar, Dynamis, Whitegate AH, Abyssea, etc... It's a night and day difference. It also runs all newer games fine, Starcraft II, Civilization V, Fallout: New Las Vegas, etc... If you play FFXI, there's just no reason to keep an Nvidia =/.

Is there a display driver update for ATI Radeon Xpress 200 that helps for FFXI? Cause it runs fine in most areas, even crowding, but the instant any glowing effects are involved, especially confluxes, avatars, or maws, the FPS shoots down drastically to as low as 4. On the other hand I hover around 28 FPS when there's nothing happening in the vicinity.

Kinda sucks when you do scattered shells, scattered minds and have 7 angry taurii chasing you to the end of the earth, and lag at the conflux and can't warp in time to ditch em. (I swear they gain + movement speed if they get behind by about 30 yalms, they are ALWAYS right behind me even with atma of ambition.)

New drivers make my FPS drop like crazy, so I use old as hell ones and FFXI runs fine.

The mob didn't move between the two pics. All I did is very slightly rotate the camera. And it vanished from my screen, but was still targetable.

As I approach the archway, the flag flickers between the main pic in the inset.

Can this be fixed with either different drivers or changing the settings in my NVIDIA control panel? If so, how?

GPU = NVIDIA GeForce GT 240

It can be fixed by getting an ATI card.

Are you people REALLY saying that internet connection can drop your FPS?

Not all true. I have a ATI 5650 and the Bastok Flag thing happens. But yeh, ATI > Nvid for XI.

Its FFXI, its old D: if drivers don't fix problems, its just the game and there's nowt anyone can do.
