Hey Miz, your boy got a shoutout in Bill Simmons's column today:

Q: We need you to bless a new statistic, which captures the spread between arrogance and talent. Jordan was arrogant, but who wouldn't be, given his talent. But some knuckleheads, like Rex Ryan for example, are extremely arrogant without having proved themselves talented. I don't know who has the highest AT spread, but Durant definitely has the lowest. Whaddya think?
    -- Ezra, Beantown

SG: Like it. Here's how you'd have to do it: Rank athletes from 1 to 100 for both talent and arrogance, then figure out their talent/arrogance ratio. For instance, Durant would be a 97 for talent and an 8 for arrogance, making him a +89 overall. Nearly impossible to beat. Kobe gets a 99 for talent but a 91 for arrogance, dropping him to a +8. Terrell Owens, at this point of his career, is a 61 for talent and a 95 for arrogance, making him a minus-34. You get the idea. Only one problem: The scores skew too highly toward hockey players (and by proxy, all Canadians) since it's nearly impossible by nature for Canadians to be arrogant unless Hollywood or Janet Jones corrupts them.

The highest talent/arrogance ratio ever? Bobby Orr; 100 for talent, 0 for arrogance. Our only perfect 100. The lowest talent/arrogance ratio ever? Freddie Mitchell: 10 for talent, 90 for arrogance, minus-80 overall. For some reason I can't think of anyone worse than Freddie Mitchell. He has to be the talent/arrogance nadir, right? Unless you opened it up to all walks of life; then you'd have Levi Johnson as a minus-100. I need to think about this more.

Most underrated player: Calvin Johnson (Dude made Shaun Hill look great, if I were building a non-fantasy team, he'd be my #1 WR)

Most overrated team: Atlanta Falcons (One notable win all season)
Most underrated team: Seattle Seahawks (ranking in the twenties. Won against the Chargers and @Chicago).

Revis is overrated, but he's not the most. That honor belongs to Eli Manning. Boy got hot for 3 games in the playoffs once, but otherwise he's just Matt Leinart with a better arm and a prominent last name.

I'd love to be a homer and say most underrated is DRC or Adrian Wilson, but ADub can't cover TEs to save his life and DRC may be the most physically gifted CB in the league, but he's the Randy Moss of DBs and doesn't show up every game/play. I'd have to give it to Leon Hall. He plays in the wasteland that is Cincy, but outshines everyone save Revis, while playing behind a relatively weaker front 7.

Overrated team: Dallas Cowboys, forever & ever, amen
Underrated team: agree with the Seahawks. If they had any kind of decent pass-rush to speak of they could be consistently dangerous...but they'll have to settle for being sneaking up on people for now

And Tyche is crazy for picking AZ over Seattle @ Qwest. Max Hall may eventually turn into something resembling an NFL qb, but it won't be this week.

I'm interested to know his response out of pure intellectual curiosity, and in no way endorse nor refute Simmons's claim. Don't shoot the messenger.

Simmons giving 10 pts for talent is being kind of generous to Freddie.

Only thing he ever did was run his fucking mouth and catch a 4th and 26 pass from McNabb to beat the Packers in the playoffs. Wasn't some amazing catch though, and nowhere in the same galaxy as the David Tyree catch when you talk about "holy shit" moments and its importance.

Cause everyone wants Eli to be the next Peyton, and joking aside unless he goes thru some major transformation he won't be. That doesn't mean he's a terrible Quarterback. He's been with us 6 years, has gone to 4 playoffs, 1 Super Bowl win, a Pro Bowl selection the year AFTER(and the only Giants QB to be picked to do so since Phil Simms), and is on course to break Phil Simms team record for total yards. This guy ain't no Peyton but he's far from overrated anymore.

Also, a 4th and 26 catch is fucking pro. That was much more epic than Tyree's catch. The best part of that Tyree play was Eli getting out a jersey grabbing sack and spinning back into the pocket, had Tyree been blessed with the hands of Fredex then there would be no need to trap it on his helmet.

I cant congratulate shit hands, congrats to his helmet though.

Hey, David Tyree and FredEx have a lot in common.

I mean, they're both not in the league anymore.

The only reason FredEx caught that 4th and 26 ball is because the divine football gods needed overtime so Favre could lose another game on a horrendous gunslinger interception directly to Brian Dawkins.

Philadelphia quarterback Kevin Kolb was fined $5,000 for a horse-collar tackle on Atlanta's William Moore while Moore was returning an interception.

Noone intercepts Kolb's pass and gets away with it.
