And that's another issue with this game. There are people who realize that something like this is going to happen and not everyone likes playing a terrible game now so they can benefit from being able to control the economy later.
But if they don't do so, they'll most likely struggle when they try to acquire certain end-game equipment. It's not out of the question to think that this reason alone is enough to discourage many people from coming back once FFXIV is supposedly playable.
Mysidia has been hovering around 850-950 this past week, early evening EST.
Here is a link to the population change during JP times.

Red dots are for weekends.
Blue dots are for weekdays.
Yellow dots shows the trend of the population.
Don't worry about the gray dots/line, I think that just shows the possible future trend of the population if everything stays the same. But the updates may change that.
We need more dots if you ask me!
Yes I had to double space that sorry.
kashuan only gets over 1000 on weekends, i play between 12 and 18 PST, yesterday was the lowest i ever seen 350-450, but it is usually between 600 e 900.
hopefully the update will bring ppl back.
Most NA who gave this game a try aren't going to fuck with it until the euphoria of cata wears off. Don't expect the game to gain momentum until march or the first expansion.
most of them are assholes anyway..
i have been kicked out of parties by a LS that only accepts ppl in their PTs if they use ventrilo.. seriously, wtf is wrong with this WoW idiots? a friend joined their vent once so he could pt and he said they just talk trash there. Funny fact, one of them threatened me saying i wouldnt be doing any endgame. Even if 14 HAD an endgame right now, im sure using vent wouldnt be required to play it.
This is a stereotype that I see passed around far too often. Internet behavior is not exclusive to North American game players. The people you describe do sound close-minded with the threatening and trash talking; unfortunately, a moderately high percentage of players in any competitive setting will exhibit superiority complexes.
As you said, FFXIV may not require voice communication for it's future maximum level content considering the pace of the game, but that does not negate the fact that voice communication is superior to text communication in order to maximize efficiency for even slightly dynamic game play. Most players, regardless of their actual capabilities, know the importance of efficiency. Voice communication is still a growing concept in the MMO genre, and WoW just happened to be one of the more popular MMOs that actually drew a visible line which showed the increase in efficiency from text to voice communication.
I don't see FFXIV drawing in nearly as many WoW or potential WoW players as it could have before Cataclysm. Many of the changes in the expansion are designed to specifically increase retention rates for new players.
i agree is more efficient, i used vent on FFXI for some events. But kicking out someone from a xp party because he doesnt want to join vent is stupid on a whole different level.
but yesterday i had my vengeance, i was exping on the same place this LS kicked me but with nice ppl this time, one of the members of the party was from this LS and even was the guy that kicked me (although i dont blame him since he said nothing to me, just kicked when asked by their friends). The SP was great, over 10k/hr. Then they came, 3 of them, so i tell the leader from the party that they are assholes, especially one the them (the guy that picked a fight with me for no reason, was trash talking all the time and clearly felt superior to everyone in the game). So, after some drama, the leader invite everyone but this one guy, he starts trash talking again, then everyone from his LS leaves the party, they get no XP, we find new members right away and continue. Best day ever, got phys 40, rank31 thm, shield 10 and had my vengeance.
Looks like we can't keep track of server population anymore![]()
lol "cowardly." You would be a horrible business owner.
It was a pretty bullshit move imo. We'll just figure out some more roundabout way to figure it out anyway, much like the rest of the game(and the last game too)
What does "/sea all" do for anyone other than supply shit-talking ammunition for the game that's obviously struggling?
Good god they must be paying you to post here.
That's not white-knighting, it's rabid fanboyism. Funny.
You are saying it's "cowardly" and "bullshit move" when it takes a 3rd grader to understand the reasoning behind it. Grow the fuck up.
So the only time a company should allow their dick size to be measured is when they think it will be considered big?
I don't remember them turning off /sea all when FFXI bled ~25% of its population in less than a year.
P.S. For the record, I think they've turned off /sea all for server optimization reasons, not Short Man's Syndrome, and I think it'll be making a reappearance. I believe that they are trying to squeeze every drop of performance from the servers that they can, and /sea all was considered an acceptable short-term sacrifice. But if you want to believe that they turned it off because they are scared of internet forum posters making fun of them, I guess that's your prerogative.
