If you check out the list at yg:

http://ffxiv.yg.com/items?c=1.8

You'll see there are a lot of weapons with magic stats that are hidden. Like the Firepot:

Firepot
1/12 Throwing Stone

Suits: All Classes
Optimal Rank: 28

Attributes
Damage Type
Attack 50
Fire 50%
Accuracy 153
Projectile 25%
Crit. Hit Rate 51
Blunt 25%
*Magic Potency 10
*Magic Accuracy 102

I equipped this at rank 25 and it didn't change any stats on my gear screen. So what's going on? Also, if you look at the whole list a trend emerges. Moving up in optimal ranks increases the magic potency and accuracy. What effect do they have and how does it work? Also, where did these hidden stats get first observed?

Throwing/off-hand tools etc don't change your stats on screen. afaik The Matk/Macc on main weapons is for spells so that DoW have a chance to use DoM spells effectively, the stats being on firepots is probably because it deals 50% fire damage/just because it's on other equip (lots of stuff has hidden stats).

Just about every single item has hidden stats in the data that it doesn't use. There's no point to them at all and I wish YG would stop showing them. If they aren't listed in the game, they don't have an effect at all. They must have started out with a basic framework of item rank > base stats relations for each rank... then as they made items, they hid and disabled the irrelevant stats and then made further adjustments/additions.

For example:

Willow Fishing Rod (Rank-12)
Attack: 11
Magic Potency: 11
Accuracy: 158
Magic Accuracy: 158

Plumed Bronze Pickaxe (Rank-12)
Attack: 11
Magic Potency: 11
Accuracy: 158
Magic Accuracy: 158

Yew Fishing Rod (Rank-42)
Attack: 31
Magic Potency: 31
Accuracy: 438
Magic Accuracy: 438

Iron Dolabra (Rank-42)
Attack: 31
Magic Potency: 31
Accuracy: 438
Magic Accuracy: 438

Moth Pupa (Rank-1)
Attack: 12
Magic Potency: 4
Accuracy: 88
Magic Accuracy: 64

Lugworm (Rank-1)
Attack: 12
Magic Potency: 4
Accuracy: 88
Magic Accuracy: 64

It's entirely based on rank and means nothing.

Throwing weapons's stat only work when you use them most likely... So of course if won't change your attack from main weapons. This particular weapon has attack, accuracy , crit, stats that will be used to calculate the wpn's damage. Idk how they found the magic attack and accuracy numbers but it probably is used to calculate the magic part of the dmg ( fire 50% here).

Normal weapons like H2H also display a (hidden) magic acc/att stat on your status screen even though its not listed on the weapon.
