I think the game sucks but no way it deserves either of these "awards". Sadly it seems to be winning both at the moment...
Bah, meant to put this in standard..

No, it does.
The average person doesn't play very many games. The Final Fantasy name is what's earning it these "awards."
More publicity to shit on Square's name? I'm okay with this.
I think the awards are 100% dead on. The worst game that everyone played.... Yes, so many of us still played despite the warnings of the beta players saying that there was not difference between beta and release.
Most disappointing game.... Yes when it turned out we were wrong for buying the game and giving away our money we were disappointed.
Dont get me wrong, I want the game to succeed and am totally behind their recent efforts, but the release of FFXIV earned these awards and I hope they stick in the final voting.
It's spot on, but hopefully that will change.
Fortunately for SE FFXIII didn't get a most disappointing game. Seems like a foregone conclusion.
Also, Lost Planet 2 for worst game everyone played? At worst it is a downgrade from the original. You know, I shouldn't even be reading this stuff. I'll just get bothered by it. I don't normally hold big name gaming sites to some standard and lists, awards, and any mixture of the two are trash that makes you stupid.
EDIT: Anyway, I can't really see FFXIV winning either(but then again, I don't often see eye to eye with GS), though it certainly deserves the nominations. For one, FFXIV can never be more disappointing than APB because even if people who liked APB existed THEY CANT PLAY IT lol. Talk about disappointing! And the money put into that game probably exceeds most games put out this year.
EDIT: THEN AGAIN, Vanquish and Bayonetta both up for game of the year. Someone in there somewhere I can agree with. (Though no Monster Hunter Tri for best Wii game is some weird shit. It is like they forgot everything that came out more than three months ago)
Personally I was way more disappointed with XIII, maybe because there is hope 14 will get fixed, there is no hope 13 will.
I will be disappointed if APB doesn't win most disappointing game, mostly because I walked into Walmart and they were still selling a copy of APB, and if anything it should win worst game everyone played because it was mostly free to play with the GTA side of it being pay per hour.
What I find more significant than those nominations is that SE managed to release a game that gets nominated as the best RPG (FFXIII) and a game that gets nominated for the worst/most disappointing game within the same year.
After playing FFXIII (which is probably going to win the best RPG award) it was hard to believe that FFXIV was made by the same company.
There was a time I really believed that FFXIV's development was outsourced to a Chinese company since quality-wise FFXIV doesn't hold a candle to FFXIII.
Hopefully this will teach SE to stick to offline games.
Idiots at the tops of companies like to see online RPGs as an entirely different ball game with which they can release an unfinished product and finish it later via patches while people pay for subscriptions the whole time. Perhaps an important lesson was learned by all here.
Quality of what precisely? (Story, gameplay, environments/adventure, everything combined, etc..?)Originally Posted by Nevex
Probably not talking quality, but i found FF14 more enjoyable than 13(Probably due to multiplayer & free to explore). When 12 came out, i remember thinking how i wasn't attached to the characters that well. After playing 13, it feels like 12's attachments were more fitting, and that's sad. IDK, 13 was so boring & uninspired. I'll be sticking with Mistwalker now for a REAL FF experience, i think. Tired of SE failing to recapture FF again.
Here's to hoping The Last Story is pretty good.
As for these awards, i vote APB. Seems most likely, imo.
Its the worst of the major-budget games, for sure. If we're talking about games we know will be shitty right out of the box, then yeah, they don't deserve it. You typically don't see a lot (read: any) hype for those trash games, though. This is a numbered Final Fantasy. I'd say the world takes that a bit more seriously than the latest Barbie Horse Adventures.
I'll agree though, APB has got to win. No game has crashed that hard, that fast, in recent history.
Doesn't that cut both ways? FFVII to FFXII always winning numerous awards, despite not always being the best of games? Its no different from Halo or any other major franchise, and it extends across boundaries to music, sports, and popular culture. Brand name is everything, for better and for worse.
Too bad though. I liked what that game tried to accomplish.
