Smithsonian: The Art of Video Games ( User Voted Exhibit )

    http://www.artofvideogames.org/

Not sure if posted, I didn't see it in GD or here but this is pretty cool. Smithsonian is having people voted on what they think should be exhibited and stored in regards to the art of video games.

It covers 5 "eras" of gaming and voting is on different genre's in each system for each genre.

Pretty cool stuff, be a part of your cultures history

    Spoiler: show
For SNES RPG I had to choose between Chrono Trigger and Earthbound

I wish they'd had fighting games in there, at all. Bengus' contributions to how arcade fighter art evolved is Smithsonian-worthy

Complete lack of portables was notable. What, Pokemon didn't have a big enough effect on our culture to be included?

Overall there were things I would've included they didn't (I don't even remember them having Tetris? Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like a big oversight if they indeed did not have it there).

Does Pokemon count as a visually spectacular game? Even in the context of the hardware generations that housed it?

Saw that a few days ago on facebook. Voted for Chrono Trigger, Tales of Symphonia, MGS and FF when possible.

About time people acknowledge video games as an art form.

    agreed.
also for era 1 & 2 its pretty hard to tell the art there unless you played them during their time to appreciate it...

but awesome that they're doing this

hardest part of this entire thing was keeping a straight face while saying anything on Wii had "striking visuals"

Voting between Chrono Trigger, A Link to the Past and Earthbound -_-. Super Mario World and DKC also...

Tossed in a vote for Actraiser and Starfox. N64 votes were tight lol.
