Do note that 3 day passes for PAX Prime sold out in a matter of weeks so if you know you are going, buy your passes now.

...where did you hear this? lol

    From Robert Khoo himself:

There are a number of factors playing into the decision to choose Easter Weekend, including:

    1. Actually having dates where the entirety of the convention center is open, and that's not just for show days. It takes us five full days to setup and two full days to strike.
    2. Not overlapping the Boston Marathon
    3. Not being close to any large event/conferences within boston that would hurt our ability to negotiate for lower hotel room rates for attendees.
    4. Not overlapping with GDC (since many developers and publishers go to both)
    5. Not overlapping with Anime Boston
    6. Not overlapping with SXSW
    7. As far away from PAX Prime the previous year (so not too early) so we can plan the show.
    8. As far away from PAX Prime, E3 and SDCC the next year (so not too late).

So, that said, when looking at that list, I came to the realization a long time ago fulfilling all of those is an impossibility. One of two of those gives every year. (same with prime, only with different criteria/shows) For instance, this year we needed to overlap with SXSW, and tons of speakers and guests couldn't make it because they were booked for that. It's just a reality of the show.

That list is pretty much in order of importance. Tough decisions need to get made because of it, and to get #s 1-3 in alignment, #s 4, 5 or 6 had be compromised. It's unfortunate, but it had to happen.
They knew the East dates before Prime.

On topic, I'll be there! Enforcing tabletop tournaments :D

3 day passes for PAX East don't sell as quickly as Prime, or at least they haven't the last two years. Unless there's a sudden surge in popularity it'll still be a few months before passes go. In any case they update the Pax East site, on PA, and on their twitter feed when they're starting to run low.

Anyway, I can't wait! PAX weekend is so much fun. Hopefully it's a bit warmer this year, it was damn cold last time and you have to walk farther to find good food since they moved the convention out of downtown.... hopefully they have better food choices in the center itself this time.

Reedpop is working on the possibility of having food trucks on site to help with the food issues. There's also a web service that I can't currently remember the name of (foodler?) which will help you find restaurants that are a) open and b) can deliver to your current location (i.e. hotel).

As far as passes go, unless you have some sort of financial burden that is keeping you from getting passes NOW, don't wait. If you have even the slightest inclination to go to PAX then buy a pass. I guarantee you'll be able to resell it and recoup 100% of your money if your plans change.

With the attendance at the annual Penny Arcade Expo (East Coast Version) exponentially increasing with each passing year, it comes as no surprise that all 3-day passes have officially sold out.

However, there are still single-day passes available for purchase. If you’re cunning enough, you might even consider purchasing three single-day passes, allotting you the same benefits of a 3-day pass, just with a little bit more money spent ($40 to be exact).

If you’re anywhere near the wonderful city of Boston, Massachusetts, I encourage any and all gamers curious in attending a convention to give it a whirl. While you’ll see press-like people there like Inside Gaming, the show is truly for the fans.

For those of you eagerly attending the eastern version of the Penny Arcade Expo in easy, breezy Boston, Massachussetts, then get ready. The folks behind the event have released the official schedule for the third annual PAX East, a show for gamers, media, and enthusiasts alike.

It’s at PAX where you can check out the newest games long before they’ve hit store shelves. Previous displays have included Civilization V, Mafia II, Battlefield 3, Bioshock Infinite, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, The Darkness II, and so many more.

If you’re less into the games and more into meeting industry folk, you’re in luck too! A smorgasbord of panels featuring your favorite game and media personalities will be back to back the entire weekend, ripe for the viewing.

Additionally, there will be cosplaying, parties, Q&A’s, unveils, and tons and tons of swag.

I can’t begin to explain the unholy amounts of swag you’ll receive at PAX East.

So if you’re going, be sure to read over the schedule and plan your weekend out accordingly.

And if you can't go, fear not! TwitchTV is going to be streaming select content from across the convention all weekend!
