XBOX 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver HELP

I got a XBOX 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver and can't seem to get it to work properly. I've read all over the place how to properly install it, and no one seems to have a solid "THIS IS WHAT YOU DO". I think the problem is that I'm on a 64-bit Vista, which is what other people have been saying is their problem as well.

Basically I plug the receiver into the USB port and it turns on, and then I turn my 360 controller on and it turns on, and then I press the button on the receiver so that it begins looking for a signal and flashing green, and I do the same w/ the controller and the green lights start spinning like it's looking for the receiver, and then the receiver stops flashing but the controller continues to flash green and then never connects to it.

I installed all the drivers that came with the software, restarted my computer, etc. etc. and have had no luck getting this to work. If you can help that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks~

Have you used any .lib files to use other things in your USB ports? I know I was using a PS3 controller <-> PC program that completely boinked some other things trying to connect to any USB port. Just anything like that being installed can cause a problem with USB connectivity with some devices.

And come to think of it, what I was having a problem connecting was a Zune, which is under microsoft as well.

Just plug it in, then look in windows update, should download the driver for it. Most games for Windows have a setting for it. I just installed Win 7 yesterday, and in the first group of updates, that was in it. Fallout 3, Arkham Asylum, Prototype, Resident Evil 5, etc all work. Should just have to press a button, and it automatically configures to xbawx controller. Should, anyway. Let me know if you have any further problems!

Edit: also while the circle is spinning in the middle, are you holding down the little button on the top? There might be one on the reciever as well. You might have to hold down both. I am also on 64 bit, not a problem.

It doesn't download the driver, it can't find it. And then when I use the CD that came with it and install the driver, it still does not work. Then I went to a different website and tried to DL the driver and that said there was an error and could not work as well.

Yes while the circle is spinning I am holding the button on the top as well as pushing the button on the receiver. It still does not work.

You go to this website to get the driver?

    This is direct from MS.

Not too sure on what else I can offer. Try installing this driver, then plugging in the reciever to a different USB port. I'll see if I can dig anything else up!

I downloaded that driver, and when windows tries to install it it says

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. The system cannot find the file specified." >

How about not using the shitty official drivers - http://www.katch.ne.jp/~morii/driver/x360wc/index.html

Only problem with these drivers is that games won't recognize it as a 360 controller for those that have native support for it, but by god the amount of options you can tweak for the controller makes the trade-off worthwhile for essentially every game that *doesn't* support the 360 controller via xinput.
(in the controller menu you can change joysticks deadzones, acceleration, the rumble strength, how the triggers are handled, etc, shit you can't do with Microsoft's drivers)

uh yeah I don't know what to do with this. I downloaded the "x360wc.wlh.x64.en.zip 64-bit Windows Vista 用 (English) 317 KB 2010年 1月17日" that one, and now when I plug the USB dongle in it does not recognize it and ask to install drivers like it did before. Urggh I'm very computer inept that probably is not helping the problem.
