    The Raid - WoW Documentary

Has anyone been able to find a downloadable copy of this? My friend said it streamed the other day, but neither he, nor I have been able to find it since then. It seems they streamed it live as preview, then took it down before officially releasing it? If anyone can clarify that'd be great.

I recommend basically skipping to 25min in for the actual documentary from that link.

I felt The Raid was a little misguided. It seemed more like the director wanted to make Second Skin, but someone already made that. As a result we have a really short collection of interview clips about how MMOs are a super great social hobby with intermittent bits of raiding. I would have been bored enough to not finish it had it been even half the length of a feature film.

You're not missing much. It's a 10 person clan of casual gamers talking about casually playing WoW during the height of the Lich King expansion.

I thought it was pretty good. The whole purpose of it was to explain what raiding is to somebody who's only ever heard of it, so that they stop thinking gamers are antisocial nutjobs.

I enjoyed it. Never got into WOW but the interactions are very similar to FFXI endgame.

On a sidenote - whats up with Lore/Josh's hair lol. that shit was so distracting! Like a mash up of Nic Cage and Gene Wilders hairline

Next WOW expansion should come with a gift certificate to supercuts

Except that would have done the opposite of the intended purpose of the documentary.

I think the way to fully flush out the idea is to cover a spectrum, not simply a single guild or guilds in a similar situation. A documentary that explained raiding, the personalities involved, the varying levels of commitment etc. between a top 5 guild, a guild that raids a schedule that allows them to complete content comfortably before the next release, and a guild that plays somewhat less frequently and struggles to complete content before the next patch would be ideal I think. Since there is such a broad spectrum of people covered by the word raiders, anything that attempts to explain any facet of raiding via a single guild or single group of like-minded guilds is simply too short-sighted to be able to provide anything worthwhile to the audience in my opinion.

I think he does it on purpose since he does a lot of stuff like PST, Legendary, and the Weekly Marmot. It draws attention, and he is slightly left of center anyway.

Also, the guild in question is Months Behind, but the group doing it called themselves Double Dragons. There is a raid lockout where you cant say clear the same raid multiple times in the same week. Before Cataclysm(lastest xpac), you could have 2 different raid lockouts: one for 25-man and one for 10-man. Now 10/25 share a lockout. So basically Months Behind went in and did a 25 man weekly and this group went on off days to clear 10 man.

Every fight they showed was heroic, including LK. They're a 25 man guild so the accomplishment is diminished somewhat by being in 25 man heroic gear, but I'm pretty sure they downed everything in 25 man heroic as well.

It's a group with moderately above average commitment and well above average achievement levels.

Still a really crappy movie that contained nothing you can't find in 5 minute clips on youtube.

All the people in it are a lot like the people that have played the mmo's around bg for a long time, though, people that don't mind putting in the time and effort, but also don't have to be insane about the game to be good.
