HDTV box & HTPC recording.

So we finally got a true HDTV (our old one was a 1080i CRT flat HDTV).

Anyways we now have a Motorola HD cable box and it doesn't have a DVR for recording channels while we're gone.

I have an HTPC with cable in & out (Hauppage) and was wondering. If I run the cable OUT on the converter box into my PC, then use the HDMI out on the videocard.

Will Windows Media Center allow me to record the channels (even HD?)

I've never really delved into this before so I'm semi confused.

I'm not sure of the answer to your question, but if you REALLY want a sick HTPC, you should get one of those Ceton InfiniTV 4 cards and a cable card from your provider. My cable card costs me $2 a month, whereas my old DVR box cost $20, so the tuner card paid for itself quite fast and I'm able to record up to four real HD streams at once with no problem. It's pretty much the mecca of HTPC.

Also, they have a USB version if you can't use the PCIe version.

Is such a card compatible with how fucked up Comcast is?

The FCC requires that all US cable providers be able to provide CableCards at request, so yes, as long as you're not Canadian, it WILL work with your cable system. (Comcast is my provider also)
