When informed that "yellowcake" uranium was in fact not an edible substance, newly appointed Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un had a radical change of heart concerning the nation's nuclear testing program.

As of about 2 minutes ago I had to actively search for this on S.Korean sites. It doesn't even appear as a relevant news story on news sites' front page... then again it's about 2AM here. I'll be curious to talk to some of my teachers, friends and random dudes at restaurants and coffee shops tomorrow to see what the general feeling is towards this. I can already expect some apprehension, as the majority of Koreans that I've talked to about NK think that there won't be any meaningful peace until the Koreas unite, but that reunification will be a burden on S.Korea. As an American in Korea, my first thought was, "Thank God. Now my parents might calm the fuck down about being worried about NK while I'm here."

I admittedly don't know much about Kim Jong Un (therefore postan for info). Is he really the 9 kinds of crazy his father was, or is he putting up a facade and slowly inching NK back into normalsville?

I mean, really. He was educated in Switzerland, away from the brainwashing. He spent a lot of time in a civil, anti-torturous environment with people who live in peace, have a stable government and have every opportunity to better their own lives. You don't think that somewhere along the line he might have thought "Hey, my dad is fucking nuts. Maybe I should try to fix the country when I become the leader"?

I just have to wonder if the only reason he hasn't changed everything for the better already is due to the leaders who worked under Jong-Il still being in power and the people still being brainwashed to his cause. NK is so secretive, we may not know for a long time whether or not he's the same kind of batshit insane, but with this move it's already looking like he's not.

Is the food for the new Kim only? Or is it for the people?

Article says distribution is going to be closely monitored to make sure the food goes to the people who need it rather than the top players in the government like it usually does. Another thing that tipped me off that Jong-Un is less crazy (I doubt Jong-Il would have allowed monitored distribution)

Just think if those goofballs in Africa would have invested their money into nuclear programs instead of whatever silly stuff they did with it.

If only I had the slightest glimmer of faith that this food would in turn be used to feed the people of North Korea, rather than keep the cupboards of the ten fat people in that country full for another nine months.

It looks like it... Why is it always the US that needs to send aid to other countries? Why can't Russia, China, England or any other country take this one? lol

This essentially amounts to extortion, but it is necessary for the U.S. to do it to continue to seek "peace".

Should be giving them food for people. By that count, we can get the entire civilian population in 500lbs.
